Hey all. There’s a comic book shop near me that’s struggling at the moment. The owner is disabled and nonbinary and dealing with some personal hardships too. They could use some sales.

They do mail-order, so if you’re in the US and looking to pick up some comics or graphic novels, maybe give them a look? (I bet they can order stuff that’s not on their site too.)

And if you’re not in a place to order something, could you give this post a boost?

Here’s their website: https://www.comicsmongers.com

Folks, I’m going to ask you to please consider that over 31,000 people – including over 13,000 children – have already been murdered by Israel in the last handful of months before stating that the person from your own country that was just murdered by Israel is your red line or the point where you think Israel’s genocide has finally gone too far. I really need you to understand that Palestinians are people too.

Jasmin Paris is someone who throughout her career, has redefined what it means to be a woman in sport.

In my lifetime I've seen endurance sportswomen smash barriers and really open people up to the possibilities of women's sport.

These wins like this mean something huge, they change the world for the rest of us in small, but irreversible ways. I'd love to thank her for this. 🙏

Hello Mastodon.

I am once again looking for some fun accounts to follow from Australia and New Zealand. I am often up late and my Home Feed just dies a miserable death.

Having some people who are up at that time would be good for me.

Give me your recommendations.

GOP bills in the Legislature:
SB1536 - impose a 15 week abortion ban.
HB4037 - make gender-affirming care for youth illegal.
HB4054 - allow discrimination against trans athletes.
SB1589 - attack our vote-by-mail system and make it harder for people to vote.

Contact your state representatives and make it clear a majority of Oregonians oppose these bills.

    Here’s a free protip that many Mac users will know, but I bet some don’t. It’s year-end, you’re plowing through a folder full of PDFs - expenses, invoices, pictures, whatever. So what you do is, in Finder, get the folder sorted the way you want, then highlight the first doc, then hit CMD-Y. Then you can use the arrow keys to move up and down, flip back and forth, etc. Super handy (for me anyhow), give it a try.

    If your website is still http only, no https...

    ... are you okay? Do you need help doing archival work? this isn't shade, we just saw the long tail of the web forced offline with the move to https everywhere.

    Are you holding on to an http only site for someone who's passed? DM me and I'll help you save a copy some place more durable than a personal or academic server sitting on someone's desk or in a closet. Let's save the remnants of the old web before they go offline entirely.

    Something I want to say based on what some people I love have been emotionally struggling with recently.

    "Cis-het" is, on its own, just a description of someone's gender identity and sexual orientation.

    I have a BIG problem with cisheteronormativity. It's harmful and toxic. And ONE of the groups of people who are harmed on a daily basis are cis-het people, including cis-het MEN.

    artemis,
    @artemis@dice.camp avatar

    I know some cis-het people who are more at home among their queer friends than in "straight" spaces because, guess what? Identifying with your assigned gender and being sexually and romantically attracted to people of another gender does NOT mean that you are safe to actually comfortably be yourself in everyday life.

    Being "cis-het" is not a problem for me. Enforcing cisheteronormativity is. And again... cisheteronormative patriarchy hurts US ALL.

    Hey in a Class, getters can't take parameters, but they can return a function that does. Is there a material difference between that and a method? Compare get thing and findThing() below

    class Foo {
     things = [{id: 1}, {id: 2}];

     get thing() {
     return id => this.things.find(item => item.id === id)
     }

     findThing(id) {
     return this.things.find(item => item.id === id)
     }
    }

    Is there a performance or functional difference?

    A thing that I would love to get across about unpaid tech work, rolling your own [x], and running only the purest and most secure technical systems, is that if you add up enough factors like:

    • raising kids;
    • chronic illness or disability;
    • caring for sick, disabled, or dying family members;
    • community service;
    • a non-technical job

    …just for starters, the tech stuff is going to get triaged way down the list. And a lot of those factors are not evenly distributed, demographically!
