For me, had to jump start my car this morning. 😒 Not how I wanted to start a Friday. Now I have to get my battery checked. Have work per usual. Couple of demos today for products. Then this evenings is pretty chill; school work and TV.

If everyone agrees on the meaning of the picture, sure, but this is not the case. Various emojis can have vastly different meanings to different groups of people. If you're also going to add in custom emojis this is going to be even worse, you're throwing around emojis that are literally undefined by the majority of the world population.
With your example "boosts appreciated", making a hashtag BoostsAppreciated is clear, concise, and accessible to all. I've never even heard of a dedicated emoji for this, and if you suddenly started to use those I'd have to wonder what you're trying to convey, and use the alt-text to actually get anywhere. Seems like more hassle than just using text in the first place.> They can be used in addition to other textual hashtags

Everyone can make "bad" hashtags, but I don't think making the pool worse is going to improve that. If any, it'd make it worse, now people can make bad hashtags with both text and images.> There are cultures around emoji use, that give meaning in certain contexts, and those cultures are part of social fabric and cohesion then
That sounds like a rather big assumption. Are you aware of any cultures that are currently unable to use hashtags, that have a strict need to use basically any image they can think of? To me this sounds incredibly unlikely, especially in the context of the #Fediverse.

@gbhnews hi! that makes sense. I'm not an expert, of course, but here's how I'd rewrite it: "1.3 million people trapped as Israel bombs Rafah" because that's the bigger news. Focusing on "Palestinian militants" is misleading, as if this a battle between equals rather than the domination of one over the other.

Any social web platform could implement E2EE for themselves, but a standardized format will enable users of different Fediverse services to DM each other through the lens of the social platform of their choice.
I had to look at a Twitter message for work reasons yesterday. I did it in a private tab. I still felt like I needed to wash afterwards. However it struck me that I don't think I've actually read anything off of Twitter for over a year and a half at this point. For me, the #Fediverse has largely replaced it.
@torgo Once you factor in Bluesky and Threads especially. I've been on the fediverse since 2018. I killed my account the summer after Musk announced he wanted to buy the thing. I loved seeing so many ex-Twitter people showing up here so I could follow them without going to Twitter. I wish more of them stuck around instead of going off to Bluesky or Threads. But I like having the options of seeing their content in an integrated experience on my fediverse network, Friendica.
