@fuchsiii well not really, you can still play in general tournaments no problem
but it's still a bit dumb, the whole reason why the womens titles and tournaments got added by FIDE is to promote underrepresented players more, and this decision goes quite literally against those goals
@themodestokid@Tattooed_mummy it makes sense in a reality where chess proficiency is not just the result of your innate intellect but the also the by-product of access to education and social pressure.
@acousticmirror FIDE’s change is about single-sex competitions. The German trans woman who won won a competition open to all, yes? I’m reading a lot of FUD in this statement.
Literally every mention of FIDE's transphobic new #chess policy has these two comments over and over
Why is there women's chess?
This is silly it's not physical like sports
And these are both hot garbage
The problem with segregated competition is when there's men's-only, which chess doesn't have. Women's tournies are to give visibility and space to women, and that's good
And stop fucking implying transphobic exclusions in other sports is okay
X-Decor-libre version “libre5” is out! ♟️🎉♟️🎉♟️🎉♟️🎉
The Chess game that used to exist in the original xdecor has returned and works again and is actually a MUCH improved version, adding support for many of the missing Chess rules (using the #FIDE Laws of Chess) and fixing a ton of bugs everywhere. This was badly needed because not even en passant was supported before.
Thibault, the creator the lichess #chess web site, has in his github bio (https://github.com/ornicar): "Maker of lichess.org, a hippie communist chess server for drug fueled atheists."
I find that grossly offensive and disrespectful to the chess community. "Drug-fueled" is a compound adjective and, as such, should be hyphenated.
I have always wondered if computers would still beat humanity at chess if they had to run on 20 Watts (that's what the brain consumes). It seems a fairer playing ground than sitting across a TPU array. How many Raspberry Pis does Stockfish need to beat Magnus Carlsen?
Well, I can't say I'm surprised, but nonetheless its notable that #chess is now embroiled in a discussion of #gender discrimination & #trolling... that would not seem unusual;
this is a rhetorical Q.; I have a pretty good idea about [#patriarchy, the threat any woman might pose to (insecure) men & why actually ever more shrill #toxicmasculinity is a sign of a world changing, not the reinforcement of an existing power structure....]
This is certainly not a new discussion in the chess world. It comes to light in MSM every so often, but my experience is that little is changing to make chess generally more inclusive.
