COP29 will take place in #Azerbaijan. You know, this country, that recently displaced over 100 000 Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh, ruled by Aliyev family for last 30 years and heavily dependent on oil/gas exports. UN politics at it's best...
Azerbaijan has renewed efforts to regain control of Nagorno-Karabkh, a disputed enclave with a majority ethnic Armenian population and a decades-long source of conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
I saw some posts saying "if a Muslim country did what #Israel is doing, the reaction would totally different!"
But that just happened, a few months ago, when #Azerbaijan - a Muslim-majority country - blockaded & launched attacks on the contested, Armenian-populated region of #Nagorno-Karabakh
There were also #genocide warnings! It's likely the region will now undergo ethnic cleansing - a forced migration of Armenians from their homeland
Hmmm... so #COP28 has been hosted by UAE & has become a lightening rod for criticism fo the role of #fossilfuels firms in is agenda setting & focus... so where will #COP29 be, you may ask.
Its just been announced after other states have pulled out & #Putin said he would veto an EU playing host, the next COP will be in #Azerbaijan.... so here's the #IEA's #energy profile for the country so you can draw your own conclusions about what might happen next year

Looking at our data, I can see that the vast majority of traffic in Azerbaijan comes from AS29049 (Delta Telecom) which is their majority ISP according to Wikipedia.
OONI says tests were passing as recently as 28th May from AS29049 but there's definitely something going on...Unsure exactly what.

A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim #Raisi was involved in a hard landing while visiting a northern region and his condition is currently unknown, #Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.
The aircraft came down in East #Azerbaijan Province and emergency crews have so far been unable to reach it due to foggy conditions, Tasnim said. It is unclear what the exact status is of Raisi’s helicopter.
