I have created several custom CSS styles that can be utilized in #Firefish .
In the Global Timeline (GTL), all boosted posts are hidden:
/* Hide boosted posts in the Global Timeline */
div:has(button.tab._button.active[aria-label="Global"]) + div .list .notes .renote {
display: none;
}
In the Social Timeline (STL), only boosted posts are displayed. In essence, it transforms the Social Timeline into a dedicated timeline exclusively for viewing boosted posts:```
/* Display only boosted posts in the Social Timeline */
div:has(button.tab._button.active[aria-label="Social"]) + div .list .notes > div:not(:has(.renote)) {
display: none;
}
Using this CSS may enhance the discoverability of currently popular posts.
If you wish to apply these CSS styles to other timelines, simply modify the `aria-label="xxx"`.
To apply custom CSS, navigate to `Settings` -> `Themes` -> `Custom CSS`, copy and paste the CSS into the text area, and click the Save button.
Thanks to this note by Misskey for giving me the idea to create this CSS.

While we are very sad to hear about the data loss leading to the shutdown of firefish.lgbt , please know that this does not mean that #Firefish as a whole is down or going away. Firefish.lgbt was one of the many third-party servers, and just like if a single Mastodon server someone runs goes down, that does not mean the entirety of Mastodon is down. Thank you for your understanding.
I don't mind #Firefish as the new name for #Calckey - but I have to say that when I first read it I thought of #Firefox - as many in this Lemmy thread have - and seeing the new logo & colour I can't help but wonder if Mozilla will push back as part of their active protection of their trademark, a point @leigh makes. https://beehaw.org/post/6709040
I have some very exciting news to share - or at least they are exciting to me! Drumroll... we've started working with @namekuji on a new #fediverse project! It will be based on #firefish but the idea is not to create an "improved firefish" (or #misskey), but more or less a new platform. We wanna get creative with it! That's all I can say at this point - we'll have more info to share soon. I can tell you one thing: This will be an amazing ride!
So maybe instead of more forks that focus on rolling out new features, could the devs of Foundkey, #Firefish, #Iceshrimp, et al work on your architecture so that even a relatively small (in comparison to some of the Misskey and Mastodon servers) 1500 user server, let alone a 4000 user one can function without falling over, suffering extended timeouts, having server costs blow out thanks to database performance issues, and then decimate it's community when folks are forced to migrate, and then those folks struggle to get their data exported.
So much front end work and not enough backend is the present legacy of the pre-Misskey v 13 forks.
Given my ethos is #Greens, i tend to recycle & minimise waste. Thus this stale reheated blowie-bloated Intro is lazily rehashed, with only minimal tweaks, from the plethora of other #Mastodon, #Firefish & #Friendica fediverse #Instances whose various doorsteps i've darkened since Nov 2012.
Today, after weeks & months of indecisively weighing Pros & Cons, i've finally, formally, perpetrated my latest #FediHop. Sorry about that; i'll try not to wee on the carpet.
I wonder if a new introduction is really needed? I mean, i'm still me, for worse or worserer 😜 My original intro afaik remains at https://fosstodon.org/@dropbear42/109318341169759339, with subsequent variants scattered all over the fediverse now. Sorry about that.
I suppose that hypothetically, if i were to do another Intro, i might mention that typically i'll mumble, grumble & mutter about various topics including #FOSS, #Linux in all her glory & fun, #politics, #RWNJ ghastliness, #environment, our self-induced #ClimateCrisis, random whimsical thoughts, #LGBTQI & particularly #Trans stuff.
Sooner or later, my view will pop up here & there that #religion, #capitalism & #patriotism are historically + currently at the heart of most human misery & devastation. I also probably won't be able to resist frequent quips about & allusions to fabbo #MontyPython & #HHGTTG stuff. Did i mention #DoctorWho?
No, on second-thought, i really think another Intro is unnecessary, redundant, tautologous, unwarranted & superfluous, not to mention shamefully gratuitous, so i certainly shan't bother doing one. Silly idea altogether. Sorry about that.
I have been seeing lots of talk about #Firefish and the "dumpster fire" that FF social has devolved into. I have a lot of sympathy for the dev team finding as we have here at blahaj.zone that FF/IS doesn't scale well. The devolution has been more public over at FF social cos Fedi's own Guy Kawasaki was hyping it up and was part of the team until it wasn't producing the results he expected and he slinked off. I wonder if the seed funders have done the same. Chris and Kainoa had separate funders, both involved in political tech. I think they were hoping to throw some seed money at something that wouldn't drag the chain like Mastodon development and be the new Twttr for liberal politics to electioneer on. 🤮 Kainoa told me who his funder was and from that point I haven't promoted Calckey/Firefish since.
Gotta love the "but we're the good guys" tech VC people, male, white, older, cishet, been "around" social tech for a while, looking to ride this Fedi thing into "significance"/"success", who found their side project who they fed "advice" to without any real stakes/responsibility. And when Kainoa wasn't the 10x dev they hoped, they've jumped ship, not that they could do any better.
It would be nice for the sake of transparency that there was some kind of repository where such funding was disclosed. Ironic when one of the funders is about protecting democracy. #Fediverse#FediDev#FediDevs
Extra-features (disabled by default) is somewhat confusing in #Fedilab.
This option allows to enable features that #Mastodon doesn't support (quotes, reactions, submit messages in a specific format, etc.)
But softwares like #Pleroma, #Akkoma, #GlitchSocial, #FireFish don't support (currently) same features.
We plan to use #NodeInfo to automatically enable features depending on the user's instance (ie: software).
The future of scalable, feature rich, and fun social media experiences on the Fediverse.
There is still time to see this and other #fediverse app demos, and join in what will likely be dozens of #unconference sessions over two half days online.
Beeindruckend. Wahnsinn!
Hello there! If you are on #Iceshrimp, #Firefish or #Sharkey, there's a new security patch out so your server admin should update the software immediately. #Catodon has also merged the patch from upstream #Iceshrimp and catodon.social has been updated :catodon:
