Narendra Modi gives a highly inflammable, Islamophobic speech in the middle of national elections, in which he uses the words Muslims, infiltrators and Urban Naxals one after the other, as if they are synonyms. If these elections were truly fair, Election Commission of India would have taken swift action against Modi and his party. #Fascism#India
This is the legendary Devprayag - one of the 5 Prayags - called Panch (5) Prayags (confluences) of devbhoomi Uttarakhand, India. The two differently coloured rivers are Alaknanda and Bhagirathi, which join together to give birth to River Ganga (it's not called Ganges!). This is where the lifeline of North India and Hindus takes birth, at the holy site of Devprayag.

"From a few lines two decades ago to multiple full pages, Lok Sabha #election manifestos of two primary national parties in #India - the #BJP and the #Congress - reflect rising concerns over #ClimateChange and environmental degradation.
Experts, however, have expressed concerns regarding the lack of specific steps in their manifesto to address environmental challenges.
With elections in India in full swing, this is fantastic infographic on India and its elections from the very beginning (1952 to present) in The Hindu. This is like a crash course of Indian history since independence!

The Russian government last year announced a lucrative package for foreign fighters to join the country’s military, including a monthly salary of at least $2,000 and a fast track to Russian citizenship – but the #Kremlin has not said how many foreigners it has recruited under the plan.

The general election is the largest democratic exercise ever - almost one in eight people in the world can vote. On 19 April, Indians will begin choosing a new parliament for the next five years, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks a third consecutive term.
I was thinking about the present conditions of #India when I suddenly thought of revisiting this #movie by #SatyajitRay. "Hirak Rajar Deshe" (In the Land of the Diamond-King). Its portrayal of moving to dictatorial rule is dangerously accurate.
I really wanted to share this#song from the #film. It is in #bengali so I shall provide a translation.
I see such funny things in the world.
Everywhere I look, I am confused beyond words.
I can't make sense of this world.
Oh brother!
Look at the good fellows stuck in their dilapidated homes.
The evil one ascends the throne.
The wheat farmer can't manage two square meals.
The diamond mine's labours are living in poverty.
Oh Brother, how funny is our world!

"Developing countries are trying to use the failures of the $100 billion promise as leverage for a much bigger commitment. After years of advocacy from climate-vulnerable nations, the economic heavyweights of #India and #SaudiArabia are making a formal demand for #ClimateAid to reach $1 trillion per year, broaching a number that will send negotiations into uncharted territory."
