I’ve been using #kbin a lot over the last few days, and it’s starting to be a really good #reddit replacement! I’m looking forward to when there are apps available for it, since I prefer standalone apps over using a webpage.
It’s also got me finally using The Fediverse instead of just using #Mastodon - kbin has a nice option of creating a fediverse link, so I’ve boosted posts from #lemmy and kbin here like they were native Mastodon posts. I feel like I’m finally getting the hang of it.
see attached image, but basically having the images on the right side makes it so hard to "read" a post with an image, going back and forth with your eyes to "get" the whole post. So much easier to just put the images between the up-/downvote buttons and the text post....
Mastodon is experiencing a pretty significant surge in new users today. Probably because of people leaving Reddit and establishing themselves on the #Fediverse.
#Reddit immigrants welcome to open distributed social media! It is a really good idea to create a #Mastodon account in addition to a #kbin or #Lemmy account to enjoy the full suite of capabilities available to you here.
Today, I took care of several overdue formalities related to the project that were weighing on me. Besides the routine refactoring and work on the ActivityPub module, there are a few things I would like to do this weekend:...
Some thoughts about using the Microblog functionality in kbin and why, controversially, I think it might actually beat Mastodon at it's own game - browsing toots....
wow, I'm actually finding that #KBin is far more screen reader friendly than #Reddit ever was. For example,
each comment in a thread is basically a blockquote, so I can cycle through comments with just one letter, which is really neat! It of course doesn't tell you levels deep like that, but I really like KBin.
It has headings for topic posts so I can just browse by heading level and other goodies. I hope this Reddit migration continues!
I apologize if this has already been covered, but I’ve seen a lot of people talking about a need for a kbin app. While I agree that a native app would be nice to have eventually, I figured that quite a few people probably aren’t aware of how web apps work. I don’t use Android, so I have no idea if there is an equivalent...
#Kbin is growing fast, and its new community is coming together to crowdsource their own unofficial mascot. Animal themed mascots are common in the #fediverse, so it is no surprise that Kbin has continued this tradition, with a parrot.
The community has settled on this mascot after multiple iterations and polls. Now the final question is: what will the mascot be named?
So I 3D modelled two icons (well, illustrations rather) for the communities that I created on kbin: Industrial Design and Jewelry Design. These icons are meant to reimagine kbin’s logo in a way that's relevant to each community....
Signs of the #RedditMigration in action: Three of the top 6 fastest growing #Fediverse servers are not only not Mastodon.social but they are not even microblogging servers - but rather are #Threadiverse servers.
That is only seriously good for the entire Fedi infrastructure. Diversity is strength.
Oh man, it's the first time in my life I'm going to a meeting with friends with a laptop in my backpack. Give me a call if you need a server restart or smth ;-)
I've had a few days playing around with kbin now, and I really can't say enough good things about it!
It's still very early beta, but it aggregates groups from friendica, gup.pe and chirp and handles them in a smart interface. It also has dedicated reddit like groups (called magazines) that are cross compatible with lemmy. And best of all, you can set up Calckey like antenna for each magazine. This means that not only can you see content explicitly posted to the magazine, but there is a separate tab for content automatically aggregated from the wider fediverse
I've already created a bunch of magazines simply because there aren't many there yet, but I look forward to handing them over to other people once the userbase grows
@ernest, what an amazing platform you're developing!
images on the left side would make kbin easier to read

Don't tell people "it's easy", and seven more things Kbin, Lemmy, and the fediverse can learn from Mastodon (UPDATED) (privacy.thenexus.today)
I had shared an earlier version of this last week, and a draft of the updates a few days ago. Thanks to everybody for the feedback!...

Hey keebinetters and fediverse, what are your favourite kbin/fediverse magazines (communities)?
Lets make a thread to post our niches that we have found here. Big magazines are ok too....

For iOS users looking for an app, there is a quick and easy solution

I am making a reddit-like kbin theme :DD
(I wasn't sure if kbinMeta was the right place to post that, so I am posting it here instead)...
OC I designed and rendered a couple of icons for the magazines I started, and I’d like to share some behind the scenes images with y'all. I’m also open to doing a few more of these in future.
So I 3D modelled two icons (well, illustrations rather) for the communities that I created on kbin: Industrial Design and Jewelry Design. These icons are meant to reimagine kbin’s logo in a way that's relevant to each community....
