I’ve been #RetroComputing for a while now but I wanted to do a little #PenPlotter today since I’m participating in #ptpx this year. Here’s an idea I’ve wanted to implement for a while. Designed in Python, plotter on a HP 7550 Plus vintage plotter.

A HP 7550 Plus pen plotter with the lid open and the Joy plot on the stage.

The fully documented NES Elite source code can now be explored at https://www.bbcelite.com

This web version is much easier to browse than the GitHub repo, with cross-linked code, indexes, statistics and more. Have fun!

Coming soon: lots of deep dives into the code. Watch this space...

I love the whimsy of these apps, and the fact that Mastodon’s API and openness supports the ability to create them. Looking at a community-contributed patch to get them added to the website, too. https://wedistribute.org/2023/07/mastodon-retro-clients/

I eschew x-posting (snicker), but in this instance...

'Allo my geeks - I'm looking for documentation on the U.S. Micro Jet 386 computer.

It's a non-standard motherboard, non-standard power, non-standard front panel wiring. I've finally reverse-enginerded it enough to get something that sounds like it's posting

Would you retoot for coverage if you don't know where I can find docs for it? Please and thank you?

Some interesting new photos of Colossus have just been released.

GCHQ has released never before seen images of Colossus, the UK's secret code breaking computer credited with helping the Allies win World War Two.

The intelligence agency is publishing them to mark the 80th anniversary of the device's invention.

back when I read Masters of Doom over a decade ago, i was fascinated by the brief mention of carmack's "Adaptive Tile Refresh" technique used for Commander Keen, that allowed smooth scrolling on EGA cards

i never found a very satisfying technical (or conceptual) description of how it worked, and I just found out that @fabinou wrote up a fantastic post which did exactly that

Kevin Moonlight just released a video demonstrating his Pi Pico-based PCMCIA card that can emulate NE2000 over Wi-Fi, serial port, and Sound Blaster for retro laptops, handhelds, and other computers. He's gauging interest in the project for a future build, so if you're interested in one there's a link in the description to a form.
Kevin is great, he was responsible for the bulk of the SoundBlaster DSP support that was just released on ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoJ12leojwo
