📢 Happy New Year, happy my birthday, and happy time for another quarterly transparency report.

TekSavvy is the only ISP in (AFAIK) to publish a quarterly Transparency Report documenting the requests we got from law enforcement agencies, how we handled them, and what we disclosed to them.

Today, we’re reporting on Q2 of 2023, and I’m summarizing that report here. 🧵👇🏼

‼️📰 Holy smokes, my story in the Post-Dispatch last week made a difference!

St. Louis city police just posted the last three years of incident-level crime data -- and they pledge to post updates monthly.

Love how they "discovered" they were already producing similar CSVs for the Center for Policing Equity.

Wildeboer’s third theorem: Every commercial centralised service that offers “free” services and relies on ads and/or a percentage of subscription/donation fees ends up being supportive of misinformation, hate speech and far-right to nazi content. Either through ignorance or acceptance.

kkarhan,

@jwildeboer @Gargron @evan @FediPact Personally, I think #transparency is key here!

For example @admin have their instance-wide #blocklist published.

And whilst I don't agree with them on every point - as my blocklist is way smaller - I do appreciate the honesty and transparency on their part...

Electoral Bonds Worth Nearly Rs 16,000 Crore Since 2018, Taxpayer Paid Rs 13.5 Crore as ‘Commission, Other Expenses’: RTI

Transparency activist Commodore Lokesh Batra said it was odd that donors don’t pay this service charge, but government and ultimately the taxpayer has to pay up for these opaque sources of election funding.

IMHO: is repeating the process. A growing conflict between community driven/focused products and greedy managers thinking more VC (Venture Capital) style as they become more and more decoupled from the humble origins. This conflict will explode (I mean — asking for donations while the managers take home millions has a weird smell to it) soon and money will win (again). It's really a shame in this case.

Alabama is among the most restrictive states for disclosing body-camera footage when police kill.

What you actually want is and as well as and deliberate decentralization as per "checks and balances"...

Because at a certain point, someone has to make decisions and also at some point accountability and consequences need to happen.
