Well well well... Andreessen Horowitz admits, in no uncertain terms, that if they had to compensate artists for using their art to train their #aiart ripoff models, that their investments wouldn't be worth it.
Absolutely damning admission which spells out in no uncertain terms that these firms KNOW they are ripping artists off.
While Sam Altman admits that his technology is only possible with stolen intellectual property, implying that his strategy is to steal quickly, and make more money than the lawsuits cost him... The popularizers defend the inexorability of artificial intelligence, because the opposite is democracy and legal system.
New in my shop - holiday themed art, perfect on greeting cards, home décor items, or wall art! Most images are also available in my gallery without words. Pictured here -- Autumn Blessings
I created this for a black ink drawing challenge on Night Café. It took a couple tries to get it right (what I was imagining). I'm naturally drawn to night images with my photography, but by using AI Art, I can create what I could never legitimately photograph - a fantastical creation with multiple moons and planets in the sky. And a giant luminous moon that creates a brilliant source of light on a dark ocean landscape.
Brighten someone's day by sending them a brightly colored greeting card! Each card is 5"x7" (12.7cm x 17.78cm) can be customized with your own message up to 500 characters in length.
There can be more to creating AI art than entering a detailed description and types of art styles or descriptors. I've found that you can create an excellent image with a phrase, followed by the names of some artists that might fit the art style you're looking for, then some descriptors. This image's starting point was the quote from Aliens about how "they mostly come out at night". Not using the word "alien" in my description yielded a very different result as the AI engine was evaluating the quote itself and incorporating the artist names I included and the other modifiers like "concept art and fantastical"
Check out this zip pouch that is in my gallery - I wanted to see the quality of the item and I was very pleased! I ordered the large size (8.5 x 12.5 inch). The fabric is hearty and the zipper is very sturdy. Because it's a cloth pouch, this crochet print fits perfectly! I now have a place for my photography travel journal and pens and can carry it all in style!
Cambridge MA, 1967: Joseph Weizenbaum releases the ELIZA chatbot. The chatbot is eagerly adopted by all sectors of the US economy in key decision-making roles. Chaos ensues as workers seeking managerial guidance receive only cryptic replies, such as "EARLIER YOU MENTIONED Q2 PLANNING" and "HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT WE NEED CHEAPER SUPPLIERS?".
Thank you to the buyer in Bartonville, Illinois who purchased stickers featuring my digital art prints - Pop-Up Palace, House Light, and Seaside Summer Resort Memory Book! I hope you enjoy your purchase!
Wouldn't it be wonderful if vacation resorts provided their guests with a pop-up memory book when they checked out? Something to take home with them as a souvenir of their stay?
This was fun to create. I converted my image of a creepy motel into a houseboat. One of the commenters on Night Café cleverly nicknamed it the Bates Boatel. To make things interesting, I asked the algorithm model for "Rembrandt-style thunderclouds".
As someone who grew up poor and with very little access to global culture, I shake my head sadly with those people who talk about #AIArt with the same moralism people were making against #piracy.
This didn't work then, it won't work now. People without money or time can't and won't support artists. If their only option is to use ML tools to create and share what is in their brain, they will do that instead.
All the arguments against this are privileged "you wouldn't download a car" territory
AI companies stole artists’ work to train their models, and now AI image generators present an existential threat to the future of their profession.
I spoke to Karla Ortiz about her organizing against generative AI and what needs to be done to rein it in. I particularly loved her desire for algorithmic disgorgement.
