”Americans cling to race, as the unschooled cling to superstition”
-Neil Irwing Painter, Historian

This seems to be the stumbling block, where many American leftists lose the plot on , & .

They can’t wrap their head around the fact that Russia was, and still is, a colonial empire. Because the tribes, peoples and civilisations they enslaved and russianised, all had white skin.

declared a state of emergency on the Pacific island of after clashes broke out between authorities and pro-independence protesters. At least four people have already been killed. Three of whom were Indigenous people, and the fourth was a French gendarme.

Protesters have been seen carrying heavy firearms, with reports of live rounds being fired at police.

Multiple buildings have been set on fire, and several supermarkets have been looted. White French residents have also formed armed groups to confront the Indigenous protesters.

Under the state of emergency, French authorities have imposed a curfew, banned , closed schools, and placed restrictions on movement.

They have also deployed an additional 500 police officers, adding to the 1,800 police and gendarmes already on the island.

Protests erupted after French President Emmanuel introduced plans to reform New Caledonia’s electoral system, which would grant more French residents in the territory voting rights. Protesters believe this would unfavorably shift political representation in the country. The Pacific archipelago, home to the Indigenous people, is rich in minerals and has been under French control since 1853.

are we perhaps secretly reveling in this livestream of cruelty?
is this the actual hallmark of our so-called Western “higher culture”?

There's some diaspora #Asians on Vancouver Island (and several other places in Global North) who have severe #InternalizedRacism, to the point that they're not just #indoctrinated into #colonialism & capitalism but they're so self unaware of internalized racism that they don't even know when racist white folks #tokenize them to defend/justify racism & use them to push WS beliefs on their own peoples.

I lose my fu*king shit around Asians like this. They harm us Asians who fight for human rights.

Article in Finnish, but very important in current conflict

Kreml uses ”traditional Russian heritage” as reasons to setup paramilitary training abroad. These ”cossacks” are not ethnic , but are paid by Russian state to conduct training with live weapons as ”heritage”

Of these Kremlin-funded cossacks around the world, 27000 have already fought in

Needless to say, Cossacks are not originally Russian either, but from south Ukraine 🇺🇦

Everything in this story is leading somewhere amazing. It's emotional, beautiful, touching, surprising and so incredibly moving. Sniffed, snuffled and out and out cried my way through the last part of this book.

@kcfromaustcrime @bookstodon Finally got hold of this beautifully written multi-levelled love story. Like her other two brilliant novels of , she shows she has done the research and thinking and internalized the stories and feelings of the time and place as well as the relentless control and persecution of the feminine and the 'other'. This 3rd novel is personal for Kent. Highly recommend it.
