Would it be reasonable and non-intrusive to suggest to some organizations and magazines that I enjoy to consider establishing presence on the ? Many of them currently post on Twitter or Facebook, and with a growing number of academics switching to , it seems like a logical step.

Does anyone knows of a good implementation that could be a starting point?

Sure, they say it operates independently, but Musk must still retain significant influence and control through Twitter's stake. Moving from Twitter to Bluesky might seem like flipping off Musk, but is it really? Did moving from to make you feel like you just flipped off Zuckerberg?

Maybe this why Bsky is getting such a boost on birdsite right now. The goal was eventually to integrate it to Twitter (Verge reported).

Meanwhile, there is a true that is not built and controlled by billionaires.

I know I've been posting a lot on Bluesky and mostly not flattering stuff. The fact is we have our own shit on the fediverse to work out. We have ease of onboarding problems, ease of use problems, account portability problems, etc. Perhaps some of what they or others are doing could help fix some of those problems, my big beef being the account portability issue. However it is important to be aware of the hype bubble that is blowing up around Bluesky versus the reality of what is going on there. They are getting the full court press in the MSM and tech media. What comes of it is TBD. We saw the same hype cycle with Mastodon in the Twitter Migration, and that sword obviously cut both ways. In the mean time I want to work to get the fediverse, specifically my network Friendica, in a place where I can just recommend it to my non-tech savvy relatives versus recommending it with qualifiers at best to even my tech savvy friends.

Couldn’t we just make a adapter? Two options come to mind:

  1. Make a PR for BlueSky that implements
  2. Build a service which “impersonates” all mastodon users on bluesky and all bluesky users on mastodon.

@anders Absolutely someone could, and very likely will. When it happens, I hope its bi-directionnal. The one way relays from to , and those from twitter, are not very engaging.

If you’re not joining Bluesky, you’re not doing your part in facilitating wealth creation. The world needs billionaires too.

asahi95,

@MissingThePt Only reason why I'm not joining is because it ain't federated..

Besides, the and are miles better than BlueSky will ever be

Also this post might trigger some people :ms_grimace:

I was thinking earlier that it would be pretty cool to have an -powered app that uses something like the old feature that, in turn, supports post formats that other services use.

For example, the app can post regular posts like this one, structured link posts that work with services like , galleries through @pixelfed and videos through .

Unless automatically reformats posts based on what they contain when a user of services like these receives them in their feeds? I'm not sure how this works under the metaphorical hood. 🤔

If anybody is curious about Bookwyrm - here's what a federated book review looks like!

Note that, in Mastodon, only the review title and URL are pulled across - but here in Calckey, the entire text of the review comes too.

Based on the amount of spam signups on https://pixelfed.social, I wouldn't be surprised if spam accounts correlate to other platforms recent user influx as well.

I'm not saying all growth is spam, but they are significant enough on my :pixelfed: instance to be noticable.

Luckily, 90% of spam accounts on Pixelfed are caught and hidden before any user sees them thanks to our Autospam system.

More random thoughts: how would running a instance scale if I run it off my home lab?

Mostly wondering about the network traffic side of things, I don't know how the federation works and if I'll end up having every instance on the internet talking to me eventually.

Need to sit down and actually read through the spec some time.

So, I think I've dug as deeply into the drama as I need to, and settled on some conclusions.

    • Most basically, the best insights came from seeing conversations on another platform: discord.

Admins from both sides were talking. And as it's a chat platform, the engagement and conversation was clearly more direct, free, expressive and clarifying.

If the fediverse wants to be the new internet, seriously, it needs to growup and move on from just microblogging.

    1/🧵

    Hamishcampbell,

    @maegul @fediversenews

This is noise - the is over 40 codebases for this to be signal you would likely have to be talking about and even then it's still kinda noise.

is bringing a "signal-to-noise" issue to the this is not a big problem, but it is something we need to mediate.

    There's no Mastodon slump.

Sign-ups continue to increase -- albeit, not at the same rate as in November -- November was a spike.

While Monthly Average Users (MAUs) decreased since November, it's increased again this month (according to @Gargron).

But what's more interesting is that Half Year Average Users (HYAUs) is at a peak.

And we're very close to breaking 1 billion posts per month!

    See chart.
