The first of the dahlias are coming up. This year I remembered to pinch out the plants to make them bushier so I get more flowers and they aren’t so tall. I will still need to stake them though. #dahlia#gardening
Don't know how I manage it, but if I do yard work, the whole sky can be covered in dark cloud but there will be blazing sunshine on me the whole time. That's pretty miserably uncomfortable. Ugh.
Inside for some water and rest and it's shady now.
I’m taking a buttload of seedling pots, flowerpots, and seedling trays to an independent nursery today. So much better to reuse than to throw into a landfill, especially since that stuff does not get recycled. Recycling of plastics is such a crock of shit. Nice to tidy up the gardening shed, too. It’s such a mess. #gardening#reuse
I moved into my social housing flat 5 years ago this week. My garden has gone from this to this ! Also I was finally allows and nhs wheelchair, (can only have one of you live in an accessible property ). My gardens my sanctuary from my illness, pain, extreme exhaustion.. 💚 #gardening
#today I got my garden cart back from the neighbors so I was able to move all of my mature compost and use it to mulch around my tomato plants. This used up all the compost that I currently have, so the remaining area will be mulched with a mixture of leaf mold and grass clippings over the course of the season as they become available. While I was doing that, #BeetBear spent some time with his beet crop, cultivating and weeding. 😀 #gardening #allotment #zone6b #NewEngland @gardening
Along with my two other friends, I'm hosting a West Seattle Pop-Up Plant Sale on the Sunday (5/26) of Memorial Day Weekend! Stop by from 10am-2pm to snag indoor and outdoor plants. Lots of parking, near transit, and around the corner from the West Seattle Farmer's Market.
The Mason Bee (Blue Orchard Bee) House is fully occupied. They were extremely active building nests until a few days ago. Now they mature, and we'll see how many emerge next spring. #Gardening #Pollinators #MasonBees #BOBS
Planted the cabbages and put marigolds and some thumbelina zinnias in 3 of the raised beds. The 4th is melons so vines on the surface need all the space.
Tomatoes are tied up to their fence. I think I’m ditching the fence as trellis for string trellis at the end of this season. I can reuse the fencing and posts I’ll save for something else. I shouldn’t have to do much more pruning going forward. It’s time to harvest Kale. It’s almost time to sow round two of the cucumbers.
This year we’ve grown just six beds of field or fava beans 🫘 Five beds of Vespa field beans and one bed of Sutton Dwarf broad beans (Fava) The Sutton have already flowered and set beans so we’ll have a crop soon 😛 The Vespa are getting taller and starting to show flowers. These produce tiny beans, many more per plant🪴 and they are so tasty 😋 #Allotment#Today#GrowYourOwn#Gardening
I’ve got a recurrence again this year of what looks like a fungal disease on my purple sprouting broccoli: anyone know what it is? And can I compost it?
