Ten days and counting until this fantastic conference kicks off in Meanjin / Brisbane and online!
Are you interested in how we can survive and thrive together as all the shit starts hitting all the fans?
Interested in how we feed ourselves? How we make decisions? How we don’t be racist? How we design for people not cars, and for heat and affordability and liveability together?
"bleeding far more votes on the left" - I don't think so. The #Greens will do well - for them. Might even win a second seat. But if #labour do not win Midlands, N England and some Scottish seats they will fail
Every time labour moves left it loses any prospect of power. When it moves back toward the centre, it wins
the fact that "Europe's first ever intelligent video #surveillance system" is installed in a German region governed by the Green party @GrueneBundestag which is supposed to defend civil liberties.
Or the staggering certainty with which the engineer #MarkusMüller at #FraunhoferSociety thinks his surveillance wet dream of unlimited realtime knowledge about public spaces is somehow good.
My translation: "We will limit video #surveillance in public spaces, (...) We will evaluate the use of intelligent video surveillance after the finalisation of the #Mannheim test project. We reject suspicionless automatised #biometric video surveillance."
@onepict@RichardJMurphy The #Greens will need a lot more membership and a lot more organisation if they're going to make a breakthrough next year. If you could persuade #PeoplesMomentum to join the Green party en masse (and the Greens to accept them), it might be possible.
It takes a lot of footsoldiers and a lot of zeitgheist to go from one MP to a compelling coalition partner in one year. It's not impossible; and if it doesn't happen the future is bleak. But it isn't likely.
I have often wondered why Putin's attack on #Ukraine angers me so deeply.
Walking on the beaches of Lillebælt, I realized it is because of this:
To this day, we Danes still see the concrete fortifications left by the Nazis on our shores, because 1 fascist leader got the insane idea, he had the right to topple our democracy.
He had no right. All he had was the delusion he was somehow supreme to everyone else.
@Npars01@randahl I remember the last German federal elections of 2021.
The Green Party were the only ones who saw Putin for what he was. All the other parties portrayed him as someone Germany could do business with, for all those fossil fuels.
It is not surprising that the Putin-sponsored fascists see the #Greens as their main enemy.
#ireland runs a regime where big tech is hardly taxed and is subject to hardly any data privacy oversight. Now the #fg#ff#greens want to make the lack of data protection even more intransparent. This is an attempt to make the great work of people like #maxschrems even more difficult by criminalising it.
#Salad from my #garden. I laid out the #greens on a plate to photograph. Also from garden, the finished salad also has a small Chiogga beet (cooked in microwave until tender).
Added from grocery store, in salad bowl; half a tomato, avocado wedges, cottage cheese, ground pepper. Dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
On the plate, from 12:00:
Garlic chives
Lemon thyme
3 lettuces: Little Gem,
Merveiile de Quatre Saisons, Merlot
Chijimisai
Summer mizuna
Have some new plants in my indoor garden. Shungiku is a type of edible chrysanthemum that is commonly used in Japanese cuisine. It has a unique flavor that is slightly sweet and earthy. Shungiku is rich in vitamins A and B, contains many antioxidants, and is a reliable source of potassium.
As wee Jeff ( 😭 ) comes on TV
today - talking about being biggest party of #Unionism, which is correct.
But remember that the Unionism (#UUP & #DUP) were once the biggest parties throughout NI history. The #UUP once dominated #Belfast City Council - which now has #Sinn Fein has it's largest party.
#Doug & #Jeff are talking about the #future of Unionism, getting their people out to vote. It would help if they offered them a vision of the #future that didn't look like #NI pre
@harriettmb I can't wait for the spin that the #DUP put on this result today.
I am gutted for the #Greens myself. Yeah - it is time for some soul searching for the #SDLP. They are getting destroyed by #Sinnfein
Yes, slow and steady increase for the #Alliance would be nice!
#DUP will say they are the biggest Unionist party which they are. However - they speak for the shrinking electorate, which is losing relevance to the majority of people here.
There’s a paid internship offer with the Greens in Brussels that needs #Guix and #Guile skills: https://www.greens-efa.eu/en/get-involved/work-with-us — I thought you may be interested. Deadline for application: 31 May, 23:59 CET — info about needed skills is from an email of a green elected: Internal toolchain development, debugging or maintenance, using Guile Scheme, Guix, PHP (Drupal / CiviCRM), bash, postgres, sqlite and similar technologies #job
@ArneBab I had noticed the vacancy via the Guix ML and forwarded it on here too.
The site mentions the 31st May for the deadline.
I hadnt checked the specs, though ... Ive got the luxury of offering my time for something like that, its a lot more interesting than most interships let alone a useful stack to be coding on for a short period of time.
The #Greens have a great longstanding policy regarding information society, definitely worth flagging the role.
Just noticed an IT #internship:
> The #Greens#EFA in the European Parliament are looking for a paid intern to work with the IT Project Manager of the group.
> The intern will work in the office of the project manager and data analyst of the group. The project manager’s office places a strong emphasis on practical IT
skills as well as project management. In addition the office is committed to
using Free Software in its toolchain where possible.
Good to see the Greens forging ahead of the Tories in East Herts:
"Co-leader Adrian Ramsay visited the authority last month, boldly claiming he wanted 10 seats. As it stands, his party have a whopping 17 with the final two results expected at lunchtime.
"It means they're the largest party, although the Tories are close behind on 16, but will be more concerned they've lost a council where before yesterday they had 39 of the 50 seats."
As seems usual in our electoral ward, the usual suspects - Labour and Tory - leafleted us some time ago, but were so boringly similar that we just recycled the leaflets. LibDem? Greens? Can't be bothered it seems: no leaflets from either, and I could only find the Green candidate via Google. LibDem? Remarkably difficult to find out anything current. Obviously not a serious contender... they keep talking about voter apathy, but around here, candidate apathy is alive and well. Which is a shame.
