Art major turned law professor. Teaching #Patents, #DesignLaw & #CivPro at #SuffolkLaw.

Researching & writing about #DesignPatents. Currently thinking a lot about the #ScheduleA phenomenon.

Trying to make #PatentFedi happen.

Coauthor of Patent Law: An Open-Access Casebook https://patentlawcasebook.com/

When I'm not thinking about law, I'm usually studying languages (#español, #français & #svenska), reading novels, or watching Netflix.

A new gold standard review of 100 studies finds:

  • masks are effective in reducing transmission of respiratory diseases

  • N95 respirators are significantly more effective than medical or cloth masks

  • mask mandates are effective in reducing community transmission

I reckon Copilot+ PC is going to be a product that an entire class of professional just simply can't purchase or use for work. Thinking of , , etc.

Surely the "features" will be able to be disabled, but can anyone reasonably trust that?

The bald eagle could have easily gone extinct. But we did all sorts of "woke" things protecting it legally, ran conservation and study programs, banned DDT (that was good for other reasons too) and in 2007 they were removed from the endangered species list.

Likewise pine forests could be dead from acid rain.

The ozone could have a huge hole.

We CAN take care of nature when we want to. And the successes have been worth it.

I feel like we forget this, you know?

Before anyone starts arguing that what OpenAI did was okay because there's no law against sounding like a celebrity, yes there is! You can't use someone else's recognizable voice in an ad.

Frito-Lay hired a guy to sing like Tom Waits for a Doritos commercial. Lawsuit!

Ford hired one of Bette Midler's backup singers to cover one of her songs for a Mercury Sable ad. Lawsuit!

Louis Prima and Olive Garden, Bert Lahr and Lestoil, Nancy Sinatra and Goodyear Tires. The hits just keep on coming.

What kind of dystopian nightmare has UNC Chapel Hill turned into? This is exactly the indoctrinating, authoritarian environment that reactionaries pretend (supposedly liberal) universities are - except that they worship indoctrination and authoritarianism when it meets their goals. The Panopticon is just the Foucauldian cherry on top here. https://www.insidehighered.com/news/faculty-issues/academic-freedom/2024/05/20/letter-says-unc-chapel-hill-secretly-records

I've been on another hearing call today. Different judge. One that's questioned joinder in Florida courts.

It was going so well, really challenging Plaintiffs counsel about the case. The judge even said I need to figure out a way to deal with these cases because the argument that it save the court time is not true. Tthe clerks are still having to do a lot of the same amount of work that they would do if they filed separately. Particular at default judgement.
