The "New Outlook" demands that when adding your #Gmail account, you also give Microsoft a copy of all your Gmail email, contacts, and calendar data.
The "Learn More" link confirms:
"Syncing your account to the Microsoft Cloud means that a copy of your email, calendar, and contacts will be synchronized between your email provider and Microsoft data centers."
Getting people accustomed to working for a pittance or working for free is very important to the 1% who own Spotify and other exploitive media platforms
I don’t know how to feel about the #Bandcamp situation. It certainly doesn’t decrease my disdain for Epic Games, and I’m disgusted by Songtradr’s stance of “supporting the band camp community is our top priority but let’s fire half the staff.”
But what’s the alternative? Isn’t it the only well-known music platform that doesn’t screw over musicians? Are there other places where I can launch a vinyl release for no upfront cost? Control my pricing?
@mrcompletely@smallcircles@killyourfm@RyunoKi@daswickerman@ahoneybun@funkwhale@freebliss Really, discovery is the main problem for most of us. If there was a Fedi client that had a music player, able to extract streaming audio with something like NewPipeExtractor … then we could follow artists, friends with good music taste, genre hashtags, and stick things in a playlist to discover new music 💜
Existing Masto functionality like bookmarking would be perfect for a “Wishlist”
Why do we still live in a world where I can't independently configure my laptop display and external monitor's scaling (100% and 150% respectively) in #Linux? Or is this just an Ubuntu/Kubuntu problem?
Under X11 both displays sync their scaling settings (awful experience when you have a 4K panel). And with Wayland both displays end up blurry, even after a reboot.
I'm using the HP Dev One.
Are there easy workarounds or should I finally make the permanent switch to #fedora?
@killyourfm@TrechNex Fedora is quite progressive compared to other non-rolling distros. They were the first mainstream distro on wayland, systemd, pipewire, and more. It's why I quite enjoy the distro, as it does seem to lead where desktop linux goes.
Over the next few weeks, I'm going to TRY to accurately measure my power consumption doing daily work tasks on my big tower PC, the Steam Deck, and the HP Dev One laptop. (Using a Kill-A-Watt P3).
ALSO? Gaming power consumption comparisons between my desktop PC & the Xbox Series X, both at 4K resolution.
I expect it will be an eye-opening experience and I'll never turn on my tower again.
This will undoubtedly branch off into all kinds of software testing too. YES, I'll record & share data...
@killyourfm ooof that makes me nervous to even think about. Especially when I’ll leave my PC on and go downstairs and do something else for half the day. 😭💀
@killyourfm@kde the first thing I do for years on new plasma installs is to run
$ balooctl disable
That memory leak has been around for a minimum of 6 years. Granted "tracker" on GNOME can be rough sometimes but it recovers and doesn't hit the same absurd levels as baloo.
@killyourfm so, you've disabled the kde indexer and (hopefully?) continue to run the system without reboot. how much free memory does the same tool report now? care to share another screenshot? ;-)
Sometimes it's REALLY tough to keep a secret. But now that the secret's out...
Our new logo is designed by @jonhicks, the creator of the original Firefox and Thunderbird logos. It will make its way to you when Thunderbird 115 launches this summer!
I really don't understand how people tolerate #Windows. I booted back into my Windows 11 install tonight, and it was a total shit show.
AMD graphics driver needed to update, but it couldn't because there was a Windows update pending. When that finally finished and I rebooted, the graphics driver update took a solid 15 minutes (I have gigabit internet...)
And then the ads: "Try Xbox Game Pass!" "Turn on your OneDrive backup!"
Meanwhile, the system is running SO SLOW compared to Kubuntu.
Not to speak of that (in my case also Kubuntu, but it could be others), my 14 years old Aldi laptop stills boots in a few seconds and runs all typical consumer software without any problems. Even Kdenlive.
This is also a question of sustainability.
Isn't it absurd that we produce tons and tons of electronic waste, because of the decisions of a single software company?
Major labels get more profit, smaller indie labels and unsigned artists get less.
"A new threshold of minimum annual streams that a track must meet before it starts to generate royalties. The threshold, according to MBW, will de-monetize tracks that had previously received 0.5% of Spotify’s royalty pool."
@killyourfm PS sounds like you might know your way around inner workings of coding? Any easy, simple, program or script to fix ERROR CODE: 0xc0000428? Much appreciate that.
@killyourfm Heck, even some distros that use Calamares (like my current daily driver EndeavourOS) are so much easier than Windows 11! (EndeavourOS does disable Bluetooth by default on a freshly-installed system, but it's literally a one line command to re-enable it.) And I'll take that over the spyware that is Windows 11 any day!
Yep, I've relocated back to the USA, and I'll probably be based in California for the time being.
I just submitted my last invoice for marketing services to @thunderbird... because beginning tomorrow I'm a full-time employee of MZLA Technologies Corporation, and no longer a contractor! 🎉 🎉
(I'll even have my own team, woot!)
Moving 6000 miles across the world is a lot to process, and I may not be as present here until I find some stability.
