The Murdoch family media empire's spying on British politicians and celebrities was almost certainly far, far deeper and vile than the public understands.

Brilliant reporting in the Prospect magazine by the reporter who originally uncovered it.. https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/phone-hacking/65918/the-murdoch-spy-papers

Meanwhile, the Murdochs relentlessly inject poison into the public spheres of at least three major nations, not least the United States. And other media still pretend it's journalism instead of rancid propaganda and slime.

"Embrace AI or be left behind" is a condescending and heartless ultimatum. A false dichotomy that reeks of debunked social darwinist horse-fuckery.

Tech should adapt to people's needs.

Not the reverse.

ABC news have decided to take on the "electric cars aren't really better for the environment" misinfo.

The analysis seems to be fairly thorough, and has been tailored to the Australian situation.

Their conclusion is the lifetime CO₂ emissions for a mid-sized electric SUV are at least 2-3 times lower (depending on state) than a comparable petrol SUV, with the difference becoming larger if the owner has solar power at home.

🗳️ The Australian government is drastically changing international student visa rules, excluding graduates over 35 from the postgrad working visa. This massively affects students already here; a transition period MUST be added. Please sign the petition:

"There’s an awful lot of religious privilege that flows from the census stage and that needs to be changed." -- Mike Dove, chair of the Census21 group.

The Census21 group, of which the NSL is a part, is responding to a new pushback from religious leaders on the census question change.

Read the latest coverage in Crikey today on the debate around the question on religion.

"Dear Mr. Biden

We have been leveling cities, torturing, raping, killing, plundering and abducting children for so long, my army seriously needs a break, before all those western weapons arrive, and we lose the war.

Therefore, I think western countries should give us a breather, so I can replenish my troops and get back to full blown genocide in about 6-12 months.

From Russia with love ♥️

If you wanted to write today about vested interests, about the groups (and their networks) that are preventing governments from pursuing the reforms needed for Australia's economy to flourish, you'd have different targets.

You'd start with "The Property Investors' Club" and "The Fossil Fuel Club." #auspol #politics #australia #AtlasNetwork #society #economy #reform #democracy

This is why I have zero respect for Greenpeace.

A crop that could save 250k-500k children in the global south, and because it's openly GM, unlike all the rice, wheat, and barley, varieties that are available in the global north (Calrose, Amaroo, etc), Greenpeace are opposed to it.

Nothing sadder than a rich white environmentalist screaming at the global south that "YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" https://www.theguardian.com/environment/article/2024/may/25/greenpeace-blocks-planting-of-lifesaving-golden-rice-philippines

AI is going to spark a new dawn of human understanding and the valuation of knowledge. It will do this by making everything you read online almost certainly complete bullshit, leading to a renaissance of people engaging verified experts on a commercial basis.

That thing where your grandma used to say "you can't believe anything you read on that Google I'll go to the shop and speak to the expert there" is totally coming true. Just 25 years late.

That's the law, at least in Queensland, and quite possibly all of Australia, given what I've just heard on ABC News.

Extract all the wealth pass it on to the richest keep wages down turn housing into a commodity and let the lower middle wealth brackets fight it out and blame each other and anyone else the rich say is the enemy.
