Does anyone have good examples of company mission statements or manifestos that they actually like?

Not the BS that's clearly just there to make the company sound better. I'm talking about genuine, sincere mission statements that are clearly coming from a desire to do good and operate with values at heart.

(Asking because I'm drafting one for my business)

Really love the discussion here in terms of the scientific method and setting up experiments. I have a bit of a natural science background (studied physics for the first 2 years in college), so I often do think about business and decision-making in general as setting up a hypothesis, running an experiment, evaluating the results, and then designing a new test.

Yes, even now. Even when you feel like you have a million obligations to get to. Even when you feel like you haven’t earned it yet. Even when it’s “not the right time”.

It’s your life, dammit. Enjoy it. Do the things that make life worth living.

If you’re happy, you’re gonna be able to take care of others and meet your obligations better. You aren’t helping anyone by hurting yourself.

I lost a deal with a dream client last week.

I’ve… been struggling to recover from that. My self-esteem is still shattered, and I don’t know how long it will take me until I feel confident enough to get on another sales call.

And that doubt brought back an old nemesis - “the dread". An awful feeling in the back of my mind. My brain reminding me of my trauma.

If you’re a solo business owner - document your work, even if you don’t think it will be relevant later.

• What types of tasks do you do?
• How do you think through problems?
• How do you find and navigate new information?
• What approaches do you take to tasks?
• Where are you learning new information?
• Why are you making certain decisions?
• Where do you get stuck?

Otherwise you’ll be stuck like me, with a team but overwhelmed, retroactively trying to document every aspect of your biz 🫠

What's the difference between a human stealing your work or #AI?
There isn't one. #Plagiarism is always done by humans when they take credit for the work of other humans.

Think of AI as a high-tech blender. A blender doesn’t create anything new. It simply puts some pre-existing substance in a different form.

If you make a carrot smoothie, can you say that you grew those carrots? The same could be said for #content created with AI.

Funniest part about having lived in the UAE for a while is the BS detector I’ve developed in knowing exactly when people lie about how much they like certain parts of the Middle East.

There is just this tone of enforced gratitude: “no better place to be”; “land of opportunity”; “I’m so lucky to have a chance to come here” that sounds completely insincere and borderline fearful

It’s even funnier when I see people’s press releases. I’ve worked with those publications lol they just want money

Me: “When will my order be delivered?”
Them: “1-5 business days”
Me: “The website says it will be delivered by tomorrow. And when we placed the order it said it would be delivered by today”
Them: “Yes, so that is the ETA. If you needed faster delivery you needed to pay for expedited shipping”

Just spent a while unsubscribing from all the random email lists that my personal inbox has gotten flooded with.

I have nothing against mailing lists in principle - I’m a marketer, I have a list that I manage, and I do subscribe to a bunch of lists that I do regularly check and like.

The real problem is three-fold:

1. Assuming consent or tricking users into #marketing emails
2. Sending WAY TOO MANY emails
3. Sending garbage useless promotion with no value

You do not need an algorithm for social media to work.

This is Mastodon - posts here get shared only through users following, replying to, and resharing them. And yet, here we are. Hundreds and hundreds of shares.

Less than a day into me posting something. I don't have a huge platform, only 2.5k followers, and yet if I post something you, real human users, resonate with – it can do so well.

Algorithm-free social media IS effective.
