I got early access to Google's new #AI powered search experience, and I wrote about my first impressions here: https://kalynamarketing.com/blog/google-sge-review

Main thoughts:
I'm impressed. Google created a refreshing implementation of generative AI to search.

SGE never made me feel like it was trying to be more than a search engine, or force a clunky chatbot dynamic on me.

I don't know how practical it will be, but I am pleasantly surprised so far

I’ve been struggling to spend much time on Mastodon lately because my feed is >50% discussion of Bluesky

Seeing them makes me feel a terrible cocktail of:

• FOMO for not having an invite
• Confusion over why everyone cares so much all of a sudden
• Fear that the wonderful community I’ve found here on Masto in the last 6 months will die because everyone will leave
• Existential dread over the immense difficulty of managing a community-governed social media platform

What bothers me about a lot of this new 2020s internet #content (especially on TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram) is the fake “authenticity” of it all

Accounts that fake street interviews

Fake pranks

Fake vlogs with staged conflicts

These people learned that audiences enjoy authenticity and unpolished raw human stories.

But instead of trying to be genuine in the stuff they publish… they copy the aesthetics of authenticity and lose the soul.

It just feels so wrong and off-putting to me.
