Hamas is willing to agree to a truce of five years or more with Israel & transform into a political party if a two-state solution is implemented.

Hamas wants to form a unified government for Gaza & the West Bank & would accept a fully sovereign Palestinian state in the West Bank & Gaza & the return of Palestinian refugees in accordance with international resolutions.

Surprisingly sympathetic from the on the plight of teenagers post-Cass.

Things feel as though they're getting pretty bad here. I can remember trying to persuade a trans friend to move from Lithuania to Scotland because I felt they would be safer here. It doesn't feel that way any more.

    The latest series of UAV attacks against Russian oil refineries already made a significant impact. According to "JPMorgan Chase" up to 900,000 barrels a day in oil refining capacity have been knocked out.

    Repairs will take weeks if not months, and only when spare parts are available. Russia tries to compensate this by exporting more crude oil, but this will bring a new set of problems, which I'm sure of will unfold very soon (watch this space).

    Just realised that the purely economic case for UBI is basically identical to the case for VCs, just on a different scale: when people can absorb risks, innovation happens

    michaelgraaf,
    @michaelgraaf@cheeseburger.social avatar

    @julesh The resilience granted by a UBI will constantly erode as consumer prices inflate in response to added demand. Hence cash should be accompanied by free/subsidised basic goods & services, where economies of scale are harnessed.

    https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/2/19/us-proposes-un-resolution-calling-for-temporary-ceasefire-in-gaza

    “For the first time, the US is proposing the word ceasefire. … That is significant because Israel did not want the word ceasefire in any resolution, and now it is the US which is proposing it,” Bays said.

    I expect Israel to ignore this, if it passes.

    @palestine

    michaelgraaf,
    @michaelgraaf@cheeseburger.social avatar

    @Miro_Collas @palestine The US is only putting forward this cynical call for a temporary ceasefire in order to block the Algerian proposal (supported by most of the world, and proposed earlier) for a permanent ceasefire.

    michaelgraaf,
    @michaelgraaf@cheeseburger.social avatar

    @Miro_Collas @palestine By vetoing the Algerian proposal, the US only prevents the Security Council from passing a resolution on the matter, but now the General Assembly can consider it, where there is no veto.

    A toy from 1950: the Gilbert U-238 Atomic Energy Lab. Paraphrased from A. C. Gilbert's autobiography:

    "We used radioactive materials in the set. There was a Geiger-Mueller Counter. It was accurate. The Atomic Energy lab also contained a cloud chamber in which the paths of alpha particles traveling at 12,000 miles a second could be seen; a spinthariscope showing the results of radioactive disintegration on a fluorescent screen; an electroscope measured the radioactivity of different substance."

    It looks like a 50s advert for the set.
