"If we tax the rich they will just leave."

So?
Let them leave.
Pretty much anywhere they go they'll need to pay taxes.
They can't take the land, houses, resources, or infrastructure they're hoarding.
They're not doing us a favour, Trickle down is a lie.
If they're only staying as long as they can avoid contributing their fair share, why would we want them here anyway?

Either they contribute to the society that benefits them or they leave and free up their stash.

Bye bye. We can do better.

Quick reminder that we are not actually in a "Cost of Living Crisis".

It's a Extreme Inequality and Record Untaxed Profits Crisis.

While we struggle for the basics, banks, energy companies, supermarkets and the oligarchs are posting record breaking profits.

It would be pretty straight forward to even it out. If they wanted to.

Don't buy the framing that makes it seem like nothing can be done, other than suffering through it.

Please don't say "After the pandemic" or "Post-covid world".

Don't use phrasing that reinforces the idea that the pandemic is over and it's all in the past. It is not.

Say "post lockdowns", "After the initial response", "since public health measures expired", "during the global emergency phase", "while schools were closed".

Use accurate terms for what you mean, don't erase this gigantic ongoing issue.

Don't gaslight more.

Remember that language is powerful and

If you ask me, I'd say what we most urgently need to do is less.

Less of almost everything.

Less work, less consumerism, less travel, less buying, less waste, less stress, less pollution.

'Slowing down is the Revolution.'

It wouldn't be a solution for everything but it would be a good start.

And then and or something, I don't know. There's a lot of smarter people than me thinking about that.

Perhaps that's why no one is asking me. 🤷

When you take a taxi in Tokyo, it's now pretty standard to have an air quality monitor inside.

The drivers all mask and there's plexiglass separating the driver and the passengers.

You may argue about the effectiveness of each of these measures, but it's clear that this is a society responding together and adapting to a new reality.

This is living with the virus: trying to mitigate it's harm. Instead of pretending it does not exist.

What annoys me most about the phrase "This is the New Normal" is that it implies that we just have to accept it and there's nothing we can do.

Being sick all the time is Not Normal.

The oceans boiling and the forests burning down while the cities either flood or wither in droughts is Not Normal either.

A few assholes holding the vast majority of the wealth while the rest of us struggle to get by is definitely Not Normal.

And we should not accept any of it as Normal.
It is not.

Went to a donut shop in Japan today.

They had a CO2 monitor on the counter and a UV light on, plus circulating air through the ventilation system.

Also all the staff and most of the customers were masked. 😷

It's really not that hard and if a donut shop can do it we can certainly do it at least in schools and hospitals.

This is more what I'd think "Live with the virus" looks like. What we're doing feels more like "Pretend there is no virus".

Standing shielded UV light plugged to the wall in the donut shop.

So the WHO is finally saying it out loud:

One in ten covid infections will need long term care.

As a player, I can tell you this is way more likely than it seems at first.

If infected with covid, and you roll 1 on a 1d10:
Gain a permanent level of exhaustion.

So wear a mask.
Get a decent modifier on your Constitution saving throw against infection.

"I won't attend your event due to the lack of Covid protections."
-Sensible and reasonable but boring.

"A vow of solitude for the duration of the plague prevents my presence. Your careless congregations tempt fate and threaten the wellbeing of our bloodlines. My duty is to health and reason."
-Mysterious, heroic, epic.

I'm never going to not be angry at the fact that we've collectively accepted that it's fine to infect kids repeatedly with a virus that causes, among many other problems, brain damage and immune problems.

We could have at least given them clean air.

It's absolutely despicable, villainous behaviour for which some of them will suffer for the rest of their lives.
All so the money keeps flowing to the rich.

Unforgiveable.

I used to work with a polio survivor.
He couldn't walk, his legs were too weak because of the virus. He moved around in a wheelchair or on crutches that held his whole body weight.
He was a gentle dude.
But one time, we were all just chatting away and one of the workmates starting saying vaccines were bad and a conspiracy to make children sick.
My guy slapped him and said "Be grateful that I can't kick you. If I had a vax, I would probably be walking. You don't know what you're talking about."
