@thomas The team who worked on the visual overhaul did an excellent job! There were some old Bethesda bugs that reared their ugly head again...Like during conversations Character Models would glitch out.
It's only a dumb rumor, but if this goes down we might as well turn off the lights on #gaming as we know it. Especially all the #Linux and #Proton goodness that #Valve has pushed forward.
@tallawk OK, you're wrong that ms could "just make a kernel and custom UI" magically materialize tomorrow or even next year, and they're very seriously working on a gaming version of Windows for handheld already, but you're obviously locked in on the idea that they hate Linux so...
They tried that a few years ago with the Steam Machines, which flopped (maybe partly because Proton wasn't ready?), and currently are doing it with the Steam Deck, which seems to be pretty successful.
Funny thing about all this is that Gabe Newell used to work at Microsoft and made lots of money there, which he used to found Valve (which seemed very Windows-focused in their first 10 years or so)
#Gaming on #Android is still a mess. This is not available for any of the devices I have. I own a Samsung Note phone (with a Qualcomm), a Samsung Tab (with Qualcomm), several Android devices which are 10+, like Motorola, some Anbernic devices that use a Rockchip and Unisoc... and none is supported?!???
I really dig some of the little touches to MegaGlest, such as the mages using their abilities to gather resources instead of pickaxes. The brief pause as gatherers switch from gathering to hauling, pulling the resources together to haul & deposit.
The visible progress bars as buildings/units are researching/producing upgrades or units. The way the main building lights up as night falls.
Increasingly drawn to more gratis, or truly free, games as potentially better shared experiences than commercial and freemium games. I think a lot of the broad nostalgia for old Flash games can be related to this as well.
There's also something to be said for older shareware, & in-between when commercial games encouraged local multiplayer, which itself was a form of sharing.
Think it can be better for games culture to have these sorts of unmonetized shared experiences.
I've gotten back into Cyberpunk 2077; This game went from a disaster to becoming the version which should have been released! So many systems reworked, being able to ride the Metro in cinematic style, and the new story of Phantom Liberty makes this game great. It's still disappointing that the pool of romanceable characters is so small, with only one gay man in the entire line up. At least the other parts of Cyberpunk 2077 are so much stronger, like the lore about the Cyberpunk universe; talking about the game makes me want to continue my Phantom Liberty play session!
If they would have released this current version instead of the shitty release that we got at first...That would've been better in my opinion and I could've easily lived with a stable, fun game. We never were going to get a 1 to 1 trailer version of Cyberpunk 2077; I made peace with that after learning the misleading nature of trailers in general long ago (personally find trailers should be honest). It's close but not 100% there.
As for my enjoyment being taken away, you couldn't have if you tried! It was just a strongly worded response to my own post. You didn't do what most people would do and devolve into slurs or other demeaning statements used on those who have contrasting opinions.
PC seems to have gotten a better deal in that regard it seems! I do wish they would address the console issue of occasional crashes though, but I am happy you are having an smooth game experience.
It's funny how after having ADA as a companion for less than 10 minutes the "Wouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" sound of an Assaultron's head laser charging up is suddenly a calming sound instead of a panic-inducing one.

Well, RIP games journalism. Good luck finding an objective review. It was difficult before, now it'll be near impossible.
Recently, I've been watching small Youtubers video's for reviews. It's hardly reliable, though. It's important to stay small because I'm beginning to think the larger ones aren't exactly being objective either.
I've not seen a single post on Mastodon about this. Nobody cares, and nobody realizes how potentially damaging this could be.
@Strider I didn't even know about it until now, it's freaking scary for them to have so many news sites under their banner now. They have enough gaming news sites to control the narrative around certain games, if they were inclined to do so (I feel that they probably are as profits over objective thoughts). I glad writers like Chris Livingston aren't a part of this acquisition spree!
From now on, I will take anything those acquired sites write with a salt mine's worth of salt.
@Linux I think it's a miracle that they managed to finish this game at all. And I'm sure they have burned through the Kickstarter money years ago. It has probably cost them a few times over. That, of course, is not an excuse. It's an explanation.
I know this sucks, so I'd expect the game to work on Linux without issues thanks to Proton. Nightdive is doing a lot of great things for gamers, especially bringing back many classics. I don't think this is done out of malice. Still - a broken promise.
