Nina Burleigh on how Trump's election was driven by "furious backlash against women’s gains":

"The election of Trump in 2016 was many things, but first and foremost, it was a slap in the face to American women. It signaled the end of an era when women and girls could believe, based on statistics about women in the workforce and girls in college, that we were living in an era of progress."

Prisons put survivors of sexual assault under the power of rapists who seek out jobs in prisons. Prisons account for almost as many sexual assaults as happen in the rest of the population outside prison, with most of those committed or enabled by prison officials. One prison down...now to abolish the rest

If you're someone who volunteers and works to help survivors or prevent sexual assault, abolishing prisons will dramatically reduce sexual assault.

Some asshole photographer shouted 'SHOW LEG!!' and Hannah Waddingham shouted back, 'Don't be a DICK! You would never say that to a man.'

This is the proper way to handle sexism . You need to call it out the moment it happens, so people know it's NEVER acceptable.

While this research was undertaken in Scandinavia, its take of male shirking of admin is all pretty familiar from my 25 years in UK universities watching my male colleagues refusing necessary administration & leaving female colleagues to pick it up.

As the researchers note, however, once such admin is external-facing, males are willing to pitch in.

Its almost like they like the reputation for contributing but not the actual work.

Just to distract you for a moment; here's an interesting piece on the enduring influence of Josephine Baker on art (its essentially an extended exhibition review).

Like Muhammad Ali because of the sphere in which their careers developed, their cultural influence can be downplayed...

I always admired Josephine Baker, first because of her beauty and style, later (when I learned more about her), for her smartness, bravery and activism.

What an inspirational person.

I'll be back to Berlin soon, and am surely going to visit the exhibition.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Orthodox women in New York launch ‘sex strike’ to protest against religious divorce
Eliana Jordan for The Jewish Chronicle

"Jewish tradition encourages married women to have sex with their husbands following the ritual mikvah bath that takes place after menstruation.

In the Orthodox world, this time can be referred to as “mitzvah night”, which is an apt target for their campaign, Sash said."

If you show the value of a victim, you feel empathy. This increases the desire for equality but you feel bad: it endangers your health.

On the contrary, iIf you stress the mistake of a victim, you protect yourself: you feel like it should not happen to you. Society supports such detachment if the perpetrator is a white man or a police(wo)man.
Blaming the victim justifies inequality, discriminations, violence by the strongest. It normalizes (adult, white, male or cis) privileges. Therefore it normalizes patriarchy and white supremacy.
