@internetarchive All these basement dwelling nerds could use their time and skill productively and hack the chinese government, but noo they have to attack the good guys :blobcatfacepalm:
A DDOS against the Internet Archive has commenced again, timed for maximum pain for the California staff to deal with. (I don't sleep, but I also can't do anything on the infrastructure here.)
So, we're down until people wake up to deal with the constant DOOS against us because... reasons
@textfiles Probably by people who don't want others to see their old content. Archives and keeping track of history is so incredibly important. I hope you have a great backup system, and I hope finding ways to protect against these attacks gets the attention it needs. I'm especially fond of Wayback -- a site that can be especially useful to #journalists looking for suddenly deleted webpages, etc.. #journalism
Not going to link to the actual review because I don’t care and will not care about the movie in question, but I find it interesting how quickly and thoroughly the meaning of “AI” in the public vocabulary as shifted from “futuristic automated intelligence” to “bad and lazily made”
@JonBaker Since Google woke up and realized that their AI was cannibalizing their search business, they have been tergiversating on business models. Moreover, they can't seem to get it together with the AI they are now calling Gemini. It's not ethical--it's relatively easy to spot biases when they are spoken and amplified. It's another thing when they obnubilate, obfuscate, and omit information. Gemini has protected classes--one just happens to be wealthy white privileged conservative men.

If it's the same as a Tesla yes, but it won't be sriveable during the update.
However you choose when the update starts, and starting an update that can take 45 minutes just before you're due in court is bloody stupid. @TeflonTrout@maia
And, well, the wording was, in part, intended to prevent people from thinking the matter was fully settled without giving away too much about what is settled, and what exactly might still be unresolved.
News: “Storms are increasing in frequency and intensity, tornadoes are striking in areas not normally hit, people are dying.”
People: Climate change isn’t real.
People: “Jeez, everyone just seems sick all the time. My kids have been coughing since last year, I have this weird tingling in my hands for some reason, and I can’t remember shit.”
Same people: “Covid is just a cold. I’ve had it four times with no ill effects whatsoever.”
I nitpick here, because so many people mix that up, do not clearly identify phases or functions, or build systems where one of these facilities does not exist properly, and they you have a big, big problem.
@b0rk@nicole "log in" has no clear translation in some languages (eg: Spanish), so we use "authenticate" in Spanish or bilingual [technical] conversations
Some websites use "initiate session", which is a mouthful and super was weird.
(DeepL translates "log in" as "conectarse", which is first person singular perfect indicative active form of "connect". Not quite right, and also weird)
