This past month, I was talking about how I spent $528 to buy a machine with enough guts to run more demanding AI models in Ollama. That is good and all but if you are not on that machine (or at least on the same network), it has limited utility. So, how do you use it if you are at a library or a friend’s house? I just discovered Tailscale. You install the Tailscale app on the server and all of your client devices and it creates an encrypted VPN connection between them. Each device on your “tailnet” has 4 addresses you can use to reference it:
Machine name: my-machine
FQDN: my-machine.tailnet.ts.net
IPv4: 100.X.Y.Z
IPv6: fd7a:115c:a1e0::53
If you remember Hamachi from back in the day, it is kind of the spiritual successor to that.
There is no need to poke holes in your firewall or expose your Ollama install to the public internet. There is even a client for iOS, so you can run it on your iPad. I am looking forward to playing around with it some more.
Conferences present a great opportunity to meet other professionals working in your field and lay the foundations for future collaborations. But what should you do if the idea of meeting new people puts you well out of your comfort zone? Check out this week's blog for insights from a conference aficionado!
Russell is an unsung hero of #OpenSource in Australia - it's his diligence and hard work that has kept the books straight for Linux Aus and auspiced conferences for several years now 👋
I also created a 'complete' archive, that combines the many different ones are out there that are all incomplete. It contains the full folder structure from the original archive, the latest GW binary with PPP support and a Gopher client, the source code, example configuration for PPP/SLIP, documentation, etc.
We have a device that runs embedded linux and we manage wifi connectivity via the wpa_supplicant application. We have clients that are wanting to connect them to a Cisco IPSK network.
It’s been a long time since I did networking, and IPSK + radius is something I only vaguely know about.
But I can’t find anyone talking about the two in the same article.
Any prosumer grade network equipment that is worth metioning? Still saving some mony to upgrade our current network at home where a mix of TP-Link and ISP hardware (from #Proximus) is used. It must support vlan-tagging.
I know that #Ubiquiti exist and I have it at my parent's place, but I'm curious if there are any good alternatives out there
I am on Android mobile. Firefox only prompts to download downloadfile.bin. Duckduckgo browser actually opens the file contents. I’ll post it here, since I’m getting it from public I’m hoping that’s okay. This is the content…
Fediverse! I’ve been building a bridge to Bluesky, and they’re turning on federation soon, which means my bridge will be available soon too. You’ll be able to follow people on Bluesky from here in the fediverse, and vice versa.
Bluesky is a broad network with lots of worthwhile people and conversations! I hope you’ll give it a chance. Only fully public content is bridged, not followers-only or otherwise private posts or profiles. Still, if you want to opt out, I understand. Feel free to DM me at @snarfed (different account than this one), email me, file a GitHub issue, or put #nobridge in your profile bio.
Johannes, There isn't one - they're talking out of their ass.
They're just making noise and emotionally distressed to discover that this is how the #Fediverse currently works, and always has worked - and it's not just the #ActivityPub portions of the Fediverse, or even the Fediverse - it's the entire #Internet...
"If you affect a public post, you have no expectation of privacy".
For those who still feel some sense of having been offended, I welcome them to unplug their computers and toss their iPhones and Androids into the trash. That's really their only option, and they'll come to that realization some day, maybe, and it is of no consequence for anyone else in the world if they don't.
My #Twitch stream is starting a little late, probably around 4:15-4:30 EST as I had a business meeting that ran over. But then we can go through my plans for securing my code and homelab infrastructure and preparing for zero trust and some hardware upgrades as well post IAM restructure. #InfoSec#Cybersecurity#Networking#Stream
