Pixelfed was forked, I joined their discord and gave them a piece of my mind
Forks fucking rule, I'm happy to see this. Open source is crucial to the fediverse, and while we all might not agree on everything, it feels amazing to desire to work with forks
Y'all are the real winners, even more so when devs like me do the unthinkable and bring awareness to forks
Threads by Instagram will launch on July 6th (thanks for the heads up @dansup!) & I noticed Meta collects a lot of data. So much data!
Threads is rumored to adopt ActivityPub later on (in October maybe‽ We will see), but when it joins the Fediverse (if not on launch day), it’s data collection policies will make it easier to convince some (but not all) to migrate over to Misskey, Pixelfed, Mastodon & Pleroma.
Note: Uploading on Misskey as my Mastodon account @darnell is being fixed server side right now.
I really like using @Flipboard as a Mastodon client, flipping from toot to toot post. Lots of features.
From their app page, "Pixelfed is now on Flipboard (in beta): Connect your Pixelfed account and flip through your feed. Like, comment, and share to Pixelfed via Flipboard. Plus, save photos from Pixelfed into a Flipboard Magazine."
So I set up a new #pixelfed instance but my global feed is empty. #ActivityPub integration is enabled, I can find my new account from #mastodon. Do I need to do anything else for global feed to show up?
UPD: I also added a bunch of instances in the admin interface, including the biggest ones
Could someone explain #Docker to me? How self contained is it? I would like to run my own #Pixelfed instance alongside my #Mastodon instance (on the same machine preferably). Possible? Bad idea? Would Docker make this easier? Thanks. #selfhost#mastoAdmin#selfhosted#footiMac
👉🏾 According to @RobertJBateman obtaining IP addresses & even usernames (via Federation‽) sans consent could violate #EuropeanUnion 🇪🇺 law 😱
👉🏾 A privacy policy may or may not be enough
👉🏾 If not compliant, I will migrate my #Mastodon, #Misskey & #Pixelfed instances out of #Europe.
#Mastodon#Fediverse server admins: Have you considered adding a Terms of Use clause that prohibits the use of posts for training #GenerativeAI#AI#LLM without explicit user consent? I feel like abuse of user-generated content (text and other media included) for training is already upon us, and I wonder if we shouldn’t set ourselves up for legal recourse at some point in the future if we ever need to.
Social media is one of the most ready pools of materials for training models. This tends to continue the trend of generating profits for private corporations by harvesting “public” goods without compensation, especially from artists who work hard to create quality media. I hope the Fediverse can exclude itself from this phenomenon somehow.
A question for @pixelfed. Why does Pixelfed use a different fediverse than Mastodon? Is it using some particular extensions? Can I use a Mastodon app to connect to Pixelfed and to browse it? Why can’t I use my Mastodon account to use Pixelfed?
Alright I uploaded my pictures to #Pixelfed just now!
I'll share the links here, there are two posts, one for upstairs and one for downstairs.
Dad sent me some pics as well, so I may upload some of those as well. And I made two quick videos but I need to make them smaller to fit on this server. 😊 I'm working on it!
But I had a restless night so am a bit slow this morning.... 🥱
Hope it gives a good impression of the house. I didn't get any pictures from the outside and we didn't stay too long. It was so busy (I felt very anxious with so many people, even though they'll be my new neighbors, time enough to meet them later on) and it was very warm (28°C) and I was also tired... So my parents and I walked around, took pics and the vids I'll share soon, and we headed home again before traffic would be bad...
Time enough in a few months to take make pictures when it's done and when I'll be working on it... Alone and with friends! 😁
we should just be patient, yes? if there is something else we should do to explore this further field of the #fediverse we hope that you, our fedi friends, will let us know.
For the past month or so, I have been increasing my posting on both #Pixelfed and #Instagram. Both accounts get the same content. Since it's me and it's my personal account, the content is all over place with no consistent theme. That matters.
So, let's talk stats.
In terms of likes and comments, here are the averages:
Insta - 15.2 likes, 2.5 comments
Pixelfed - 10.1 likes, 0.7 comments
Maximums are interesting. Here's that breakdown:
Insta - 27 likes, 9 comments
Pixelfed - 36 likes, 3 comments
On Pixelfed, the max likes was a #bloomscrolling post on, which didn't do nearly as well on Insta (12 likes).
