Startet gut ins #Wochenende! 😊
Don't you find it annoying when your #timeline#scrolls just as you were about to press a mouse button and you end up either #favouriting or #boosting some random post completely by accident?
„Sometimes there are paths and thoughts that you cannot complete or fully understand. Moments that are lost forever. In the end, you always reach a destination, even if you have to return to the beginning of everything.“
Mastodon clients in the Apple ecosystem can sync timeline read position using iCloud.
That’s nice because you can always continue reading your timeline from where you left of, even if you switch from phone to computer etc.
Would it be technically possible to instead have a timeline read position as a variable connected to your account in the server that clients can read and write to? 🤔
That way it wouldn’t matter which client or OS you are using, you could still have a synced timeline experience.
#Mastodon and the #fediverse in general are pretty chaotic and disjointed in their approach to #decentralized and #federated content. I.e. it's difficult to understand the concept of having an account on service A that can talk to service B. Plus a lack of a #corporate pushed #timeline, etc.
mastodons list feature to hide a complete list of accounts you follow is awesome.
So I can follow all the news accounts but only "see" them when I feel like it, for less unintentional doom scrolling.
But there've been recent #movies and images from #soacecraft that, even more than Dave's end in #2001ASpaceOdyssey, have added a level of fear that has really dampened my previous enthusiasm.
I like the chronological #timeline on #Mastodon. But I really wish there was a way to filter it for unread posts.
The longer time in the day goes on, the harder it is to go back and "catch up" on older message, especially if time is tight.
Filtering out read messages would facilitate "little and often" browsing of timeline, more in keeping with use of social media (e.g. Waiitng for something, in lift, etc...) #FediTips
@gpollara
Yeah, I completely agree with you on this. As I begin to develop a larger base of accounts I follow (and hashtags) from around the world, time zone differences make it difficult for me to see the content from a bunch of the people I follow.
I'd love to be able to filter out content I have already seen in my timeline.
For anyone who's come over to the #Fediverse from #Twitter: One of the first things I did when coming here was seek out a bunch of #journalists to follow, so my TL could mimic the "current events" feed. Here's a curated Google Sheet listing over a thousand journalists who've made accounts over here, who cover all sorts of things from cycling to sports to breaking news. Use it to help populate your #timeline, #share broadly for exposure.
#infosec RFC: does anybody know of an offline tool (so nothing cloudy please) that makes good visualisations of a #timeline? I’m hoping for something I could feed a CSV and get a way to visualise what happened, with zoom in/out etc.
This is before I yet again start a project to later discover I’ve redone something, probably less well.
This fellow took an afternoon-long snooze in the lawn because of the heat; it was 32C here at the time, and the humidex was 38. Nobunny wants to be hopping around in a fur coat in those conditions.
Apologies for the blur; this was shot through foliage (and a dirty window...).
You can see that #Sidekiq tasks have been slowly going down (fewer users using #Mastodon/#Fediverse?). Then I had this massive drop early May (not sure why, but likely a relay that stopped working).
I've now added a bunch of new relays and seeing the number of tasks going up massively (to the point Sidekiq is running 4-6hrs behind in my #Federated#timeline -- maybe I need to QA and remove some relays?)
Even outside the political stuff, this #timeline is still stretching the bounds of believability. Maybe when the #WGA strike is resolved, we can get a competent #writer to fix all the broken bits.
e.g. even the most diehard, skeptical rationalist can't completely dismiss the possibility that, say, Peter Thiel, or another tech-adjacent #plutocrat, already has one or more #clones on standby as perfect organ donors.
#Physics is where I started and someday want to return, but currently focused on our great task.
New to #Mastodon, hoping to find a place where people can connect more authentically than #LinkedIn, without the algorithm or the corporate hype machines. #EnergyMastodon
