In 30 minutes: a hearing on whether Sam Bankman-Fried will be remanded to jail after leaking to the press private diary entries of a witness in his case.
Review: In "Read Write Own", the Andreessen Horowitz general partner and web3 superfan Chris Dixon lays out an unconvincing argument that blockchains are what it will take to fix the web.
A deep dive on Andreessen Horowitz's latest "State of Crypto" report. In short: they want people to keep buying crypto, and are not above publishing blatant falsehoods to convince them to do so.
The report itself is 60 pages long, so this is a long one.
Sam Bankman-Fried has filed motions to dismiss all but three charges in the criminal case against him.
The charges he is not contesting atm are:
5. Conspiracy to commit commodities fraud
6. Conspiracy to commit securities fraud
and
11. Conspiracy to commit money laundering
Ted Cruz says "I'm a Bitcoin investor personally. I have a standing buy order. Every morning I have a buy of Bitcoin that comes in... I own a little more than 2 BTC."

It looks like "youtube" is covered already, but any #scuttlebutt about that is appreciated. The knowledge about what's best or hot at any time is also federated 😕
Cryptocurrency promotions now coming to Mastodon in a DM with a Mastodon icon and a Mastodon nickname. 😡 😠 . I don't see mastodon.social server rules saying anything about unsolicited DM promotions, but surely using Mastodon icon and name makes it a scam.
This is looney. Jack is proposing micropayments because crypto. He’s pitching this as if we haven’t already been down the micropayments path before with traditional currency.
One of the huge problems with micropayments is because it forces the user to make a disproportionately high cognitive effort for the value being exchanged. It’s untenable to keep expending $10 of effort in order to exchange $.10 of value.
Wow. The Tor Project is doing the whole "#web3#crypto funding" drive in 2023. 2023. As if that was a normal thing that did not totally taint your reputation.

They say that the government produced 750,000 pages of Slack messages from Gary Wang's laptop on August 11, and that they won't have time to go through that quantity of material by the trial date (less than two months away)
Binance is seeking a protective order against the SEC, claiming that they are conducting a "fishing expedition".
"[Binance] has worked in good faith, but the SEC has been steadfast in its belief that the Consent Order gives it carte blanche to investigate every aspect of [Binance]’s asset custody practices without any discernible limitation whatsoever."
The government is alleging that Sam Bankman-Fried shared diary entries by Alameda CEO and former girlfriend Caroline Ellison with the NYT. They describe this as "selectively sharing" documents in an attempt to portray her as a "jilted lover who perpetrated these crimes alone".
this story that "someone is using AI to spread disinformation about Changpeng Zhao of Binance" is going around crypto media, in reports mostly based on this Fortune Crypto article.
what is the claim here, that someone somehow intentionally seeded ChatGPT with false info? that congresspeople are asking ChatGPT if CZ is a communist and then sending formal inquiries? that someone is sending congresspeople ChatGPT printouts with false info, and they're taking them seriously?
🆕 blog! “What is the user need for cryptocurrency?”
I was at an event a few months ago, where someone from the Bank of England was talking about understanding the user needs for cryptocurrency. One of the things people do when trying to create a new product or service is to write little user stories to illustrate the problem they're solving. You've proba…
