I’ve been crying nonstop because I’ve had to confront the idea of losing my best friend. She suddenly deteriorated and has a bunch of things. Her age makes it hard to guess what recovery will be. She’s already 14, which far exceeds the lifespan for her breed (typically plagued with chronic health conditions, which she doesn’t have).
This morning she regained some energy (she couldn’t walk yesterday) and started eating again.
Really, really, really still trying to find My People here on Mastodon. Am I on the wrong server or something? I'm a self-employed #artist / #maker / #writer ... I make #ceramics ( #pottery )... dye #yarn ... #knit ... read #sciencefiction ... have two #dogs and eleven #cats ... am a recent #widow who loves to talk about what a wild ride #grief is ... and I'm a #Floridian scared shitless for my #BiPOC and #lgbtqia friends and family. Is that enough tags? Hello? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
Help needed. I will be downsizing over the next few months. I have boxes and boxes of gently used dog toys (gently used because my late dog Sammi was oddly careful with her toys!). I've been unable to bring myself to get rid of them, but I cannot take them all with me. I have BOXES of them. Does anyone know of a US charity that would take them? I have tried the local SPCA; believe it or not, they said no!

I am happy to report that a friend's pooch who ate part of a corncob at least 10 days ago has had it surgically removed & is on the mend. Took "forever" to find out she had a blockage. The moral: make sure your roast corn cobs are bagged up immediately after the meal. I'd imagine the smell & texture are pretty tempting.

I am fucking mad as hell, sick to my stomach and completely heartbroken for our poor boy, Gage.
Today, his new doctor had to remove 14 (yes FOURTEEN!) teeth due to a massive infection. Furthermore his blood cell count was down to nearly 4k which means the infection is moving or has moved to other parts of his body. He has probably been in a lot of pain for a while.
On top of this he has hypothyroidism which might explain other long standing issues.
Seeing how unhappy #ApriCat has been, confined to my tiny apartment, longing for the outside, and spending most of the day alone (because I'm working), has made me rethink about how we approach pet ownership. Sometimes, animals are meant to wander, even if it means that their lives are shorter as a result.
What do you think?
Ps: Please no lectures about why we need to keep pets indoors 😅 I already know it!!
To-day, when we were heading to the #DogWalk we went down the ploughed & salted glen road. It was easier to walk there than the deep snow on the verges.
As we were walking down, a large 4x4 tooted at us to get out of the way.
5 mins later, we caught up with the 4x4. It was stuck in the snow on the first uphill section. I offered them my "husky" to pull them up.
Later, we found the 4x4 abandoned at the bottom of the hill.
Please allow me to introduce myself. #Moby-Dick is the novelistic soundtrack of my life. The rest is #Dylan. #Dogs, #coffee, #books (especially #19th-century US lit) make me very happy. I write, think, and talk a lot about dementia, most recently a book with Dr. Bruce Miller of UCSF, Finding the Right Words: A Story of Literature, Grief, and the Brain (Johns Hopkins, 2021).
Hmm, a very large dog just came up to the window (outside) here where I am working--about 5 feet way from me--and starting a loud howling for a few minutes, and left. (not my dog). Last night there was a raccoon there all night, and a coyote wandering around. Now I am wondering what is so interesting right here outside.
(I think it was a dog, because it was wearing a reflective collar... but now, I am not so sure).
(For the record, the dog here inside was very confused--but not alarmed--about why a strange dog was howling at the window) #random#dogs
Hey I'm Alicia, an artist who really hasn't been feeling social media lately (especially IG and FB) so I thought I'd try Mastodon out and see if I like the simplicity of it more. I think I picked the perfect server, since I'm much more likely to be in my sunny garden than anywhere else. :BlobCat_Love: 🌞
