@fj Careful: This is only the Parliament's negotiating mandate. Governments in Council will next decide on theirs; so far there is and destroying secure in it. Afterwards trilogue negotiations on the final legislation.

    It's worse than it looks.

Also coming out recently the EU Apparently wants no limitation on client-side / scanning of your private data / files / messages

This will chill , , ... If that were the actual ambition, invisible "we scan it all", is the perfect plan.

I am amused by the James Cameron joke, but very happy to see Signal is letting you edit messages after they're sent. (With a status change indicating they've been edited, and you can look back to see changes.)

"What's New — October 11, 2023 — Now you can right-click on any sent message or press the up arrow on your keyboard to edit what you just said."

Every step of the debate @openrightsgroup has explained that tech can be redeployed and some lines should never be crossed.

Once detection software is in place, it can be used to do more, and more.

Here, journalists at Balkan Insight reveal how discussed precisely how to cross these lines.

Even before they are on the statute book.

The reality of quitting commercial social media apps.

Over the past year, I stopped using FB/Insta/Twitter/Whatsapp. As a result, my ENTIRE social circle instantly ceased to exist. Friends, family, everyone.

Not a single person was willing to keep in touch without using the mega-apps. Attempts to explain why I left only seemed to infuriate people and paint me as a social pariah.

This has very real, very serious life consequences.

    job,

@jomel To be fair, costs money...

For me I've made my mom use her via to communicate with me instead of FB Messenger or SMS. As a nice bonus I get due to Delta Chat supporting . I only use SMS when I know either of us don't have internet and Messenger if a media attachment is not getting delivered properly via email for some reason (though I only stick to mobile and desktop web and never use their mobile app)
