We hope to see you all there! We'll show of some devices running all our awesome software and will gladly answer all your questions and show you all the new cool stuff that happened since last year!
Got the last bug fixed to make #gtk4 play video with overlay in full zero-copy / hardware plane only mode \o/
This allows highly efficient playback with e.g. subtitles and other overlays, only using the GPU when GTK needs to repaint parts of the main window / the overlay.
#covid19 is still around. It harms the immune system, brain and cardiovascular system of many, whether you're healthy or not. There is a significant chance for the development of Long Covid. It severely disables and outright kills some people.
Walking around unmasked, around thousands of other unmasked people, is an almost guaranteed way of getting infected with #covid.
Not only are you endangering yourself, but once you travel home, you're going to infect other people in public transport, your co-workers, your family, your friends, possibly even your pets. Some will die, some will become disabled or ill for life, and many will build up damage to their organs without even knowing it. It will cause more pressure on hospitals and healthcare workers, at a time when many are already at the point of bursting.
By not wearing a mask and by not demanding mask/clean air policies, you are joining in on a mass spreader event. The virus will keep circulating, new variants will appear, the suffering will continue. One day soon the next victim will be you.
For people involved with free and open source software, so principally associated with accessibility and inclusivity, you're extremely lacking in this front. This event is an embarrassment. Who's going to keep development going, once everyone's sick, disabled or dead?
@fosdem developer rooms have been announced!
After a crammed half day of talks on #LinuxOnMobile last time, we are very happy that there will be a full Sunday dedicated to mobile topics around true Linux OSes at #fosdem2024.
We will announce a Call for Participation as soon as it is published. We will coordinate with our Friends at @postmarketOS, sailfish OS, etc to put together something interesting. https://fosdem.org/2024/news/2023-11-08-devrooms-announced/
I'm interested in your feedback on these thoughts. Either here, or, if your feedback is longer, for a discussion it might be best to post to https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/e2ee
Plot twist at the end of the great talk "Mainline Linux on Qualcomm SoCs, are we here now ?" by @superna9999: the presentation was running on a snapdragon devboard all along! Here is the view from the side of the stage, showing how it was barely possible to connect it to power and HDMI at the same time 😀
This is one of the most unique and fascinating #Linux talks that I've seen. Happening now at @fosdem in the #Distributions DevRoom, Vojtech Polasek and Lukáš Tyrychtr are presenting the state of #accessibility in the Linux desktop, with an overview of the basics, what the landscape is like, live demos of working accessibility and absence of accessibility, and developing on Linux #a11y tools.
Today at #Fosdem2024 I had the opportunity to get my #Mastodon official mug :mastodon: and the honor to shake hands with @Gargron. :blobaww:
In my fanboy moment I shared with him my deep gratitude for saving my digital life from the evil corps that were dominating the public discourse until the rise of the #fediverse. :fediverse:
Thanks Eugen for paving the way to the freedom we enjoy in our communities! :mastodance: :mastolove:
A quick summary of FOSDEM 2024 and the very productive Hackathon we had right afterwards! :postmarketos:
> There is a lot coming up, you can expect to read more in blog posts and merge requests in the next weeks and months. That being said, we wanted to share some of the highlights, especially for the people supporting us. Without you, this would have been significantly harder to organise.
Thanks to everybody who visited the Linux on Mobile stand! At the postmarketOS part we had so many great conversations and a fun time showing all the UIs + devices running mainline linux! A small cheatsheet revealing itself below the Sxmo phone certainly helped, and a lot of people were excited to try it out.
Shout out to our friends from the projects next to us, as always it has been amazing to collaborate with everyone! 🥳
🎙️ Compared to last year, we decided to do the podcast inside the cafeteria instead of outside, and on Sunday instead of Saturday. Twice the amount of FOSDEM days to talk about, and with more people talking in the background. Enjoy!
