My name is JC. I'm a former tech #journalist, having run the phones vertical for Tom's Guide for over two years. I'm still a writer, just not in a public-facing position.
“The extreme conditions will follow the driest March in 20 years in some areas which has increased growing concerns about the nation's water reserves and officially placed Spain into long-term #Drought.
@dasgrueneblatt From my perspective as a #journalist, this is a typical statistics article. People can't imagine numbers in concrete terms, they don't relate it to their lives. Stories like this should be told using examples, such as the popular tomato from Spain. When I write about forest fires, hectares are of no use, I should write about all that dies, all that is lost. Journalists have to become more descriptive, vivid, and concrete! @albertonuno7@pvonhellermannn#journalism#journalismus
During the #twittermigration five months ago I joined Mastodon and now with the #calckey surge going on, I'd thought I’d check out what this side of the #Fediverse is all about.
I’m a data #journalist with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. My work focuses on data visualization and storytelling, analysis and investigative journalism.
I’m also a recent dad and an avid #skier, #cyclist and general lover of anything to do with #mountains.
I used to tweet a lot, mainly about news in #Calgary, #Alberta, #Canada, and especially about COVID-19 #data during the first two years of the pandemic. But I quit Twitter in December 2022 because it just became too much.
The Intercept and Grist begin release of 50 #TigerSwan documents
by Brenda Norrell, Censored News, April 14, 2023
"The #Intercept and #Grist began releasing new TigerSwan spy documents in new coverage of the mercenaries hired by the #DakotaAccess Pipeline. They now have 50,000 TigerSwan documents, and another 9,000 are held up in the court battle for now. The documents reveal TigerSwan spying on #WaterProtectors at #StandingRock in #NorthDakota, Bold Iowa, and at other locations.
If you're a #journalist you're probably aware of #cision also known as #prnewswire, one of the most assinine and useless "resources" out there.
They subscribe me and my employees to every email list known and it's impossible to opt out. I finally contacted their privacy department to remove ex-employee addresses. Here's their response:
"we respect everyone's privacy and consent. Due to GDPR, we cannot make changes to anyone's profile without their consent."
I opened this account years ago but never started using it until the great Twitter exodus, so apologies for the tardiness of my #introduction.
I'm a veteran #tech#journalist with a career spanning almost three decades. My focus for a very long time was #Apple. Started my first web site in '94; worked for #Macworld for a decade, and contributed to plenty of other sites besides (links to my CV and published work tracked at Authory.com in my info, if you're interested).
Tragically, amid monsoon season in my part of the world, 21 (inc. 5 children) dead so far from a #landslide, 30m high, at a #BatangKali campsite—near #GentingHighlands, a resort area home to #Malaysia's only casino.
While #BatangKali is in the news, perhaps it's not a bad time to bring to everyone's attention another #tragedy from decades ago, for which the victim's families are still fighting for some measure of #justice.
It's been ten years since I wrote a series of court dispatches on the Batang Kali #Massacre, perpetrated by #British forces during the battle against #communism in #Malaysia. It's been described as "Britain's My Lai".
Realised I haven't done an #introduction post. So I guess this will be it.
I'm a middle aged human male (mostly, I think) residing on a somewhat disgracefully warming rock spinning through space. Oh, you wanted specifics? Very well.
I'm also a multi-award winning Australian tech journo, ex editor of most of the good tech publications you've probably heard of, currently a freelancer and always on the hunt for work.
I also do a podcast called Vertical Hold: Behind The Tech News -- look it up and subscribe!
In my leisure time I'm keen on retrogaming, Godzilla, coffee, terrible jokes, the music of Prince, Weird Al and Howard Jones, professional wrestling and cats. I write short fiction in my spare time, and I'm trying to learn Japanese, though I'm pretty awful at it.
Hi all here's my #introduction Toot! I'm a #freelance#journalist writing about #medicine and #health and I am a co-founder of Freelancing for Journalists providing resources (inc podcast) for fellow freelancers. I am a keen runner, love the outdoors in general. Might take me a while to get the hang of this but happy to give it a whirl! You can find out more about me at https://emmawilkinson.net
I am a consummate dabbler in creative arts and constant re-inventor of self. A #journalist for 14 years, now a #writer, #editor and pen-for-hire. Have concluded my first TV series!
For fun, I can be found #writing or #narrating on the collaborative storytelling site #Storium, or reading the #tarot. My first novel about grief and ghosts was shortlisted for Fixi Novo's Malaysian Novel Contest.
This week, I wrote about a type of lemur that picks its nose with an incredibly spindly finger that's so long it can reach up through its nasal cavity and touch its pharynx.
