While social media can be a great way to connect with others, it's important to prioritize your mental health. Take breaks when you need them and unfollow anyone who makes you feel negatively about yourself.
Remember, you have the power to curate your own feed.
Some very important points. Thank-you for pointing them out.
Social media can become overwhelming, in terms of both time and effort, and can completely take over if you're not careful, even to the point you can't sleep properly.
Twitter users are now wondering if mandatory blue checks are illegal
The argument is that Twitter violated rules against false endorsement with its message — in other words, that it’s wrongly implying celebrities are paying for a service they actually despise. Over the weekend, Dril quote-tweeted a post citing Section 43(a) of the Lanham Act, a US federal law that bars connecting someone’s identity to a product in a misleading way. https://www.theverge.com/2023/4/24/23695772/twitter-blue-check-paid-verification-false-endorsement-dril #socialmedia#twitter
(new blogpost) A time will shortly be upon us when we must decide, make a choice about how we might want our interweb to look and be in the near future and beyond. I think it boils down to a single catch-all choice: who owns the content and interactions of the Internet. ...
Recent mosque attacks raise questions about the affinity between white supremacy and far-right Hindu nationalism
This shared intense hatred of “monstrous” Muslim men brings Hindu and white extremists into a “transnational affective alignment.” That is, the mutual hate of Muslims and a mutual love for Hindu and white national ideals.
Here is a free to use idea that someone should capitalize on... Someone should develop an external site to host verifications for free and link peoples verified account to any social media site of theirs.
So a site like wub wub wub.weareverified . whatever will have people sign up, go through a rigorous verification process that can't be bought, and then post users verified account pages like an old school white pages (if anyone remembers those).
Then we can go there to search for our favorite personalities or influencers or companies...
Just an idea... if you do it just give me a credit somehow!
I have the, admittedly vain, hope that all corporate platforms (#VLOPs) will all fail the digital "acid test".
Except for #GooglePlay (#Android phone) and #Wikipedia, I can easily do without all of them. There are #FOSS alternatives for all of them.
Life will be a bit less cozy without #Amazon's customer evaluations, but dethroning the #billionaires, who have achieved a chokehold on OUR #SocialMedia infrastructure, will be worth it.
Demands advertisers subscribe to Twitter Blue to be able to purchase Twitter ads. Will issue a freebie if they spend more than $1000 a month in advertising.
Just realized that @MonaApp allows to hide #toot statistics. There is a significant difference in interacting with content that really appeals to you without knowing how popular it already is. Even though (I thought) I did not care about the numbers before.
On my own output, I have to say that Silicon Valley disrupted me out of social relations with the world.
Facebook and Twitter were for so long vibrant venues of discussion. People wanted to answer your thoughts, brilliant armchair-philosophical discussions were had on my #facebook page, for almost a decade.
Then #enshittification took over. And I’d grown accustomed to being able to call on similar minds at the magic of #socialmedia
I was happy to give up my social circles. I didn’t need them.
Well there we go. ”The perfect content” for the attention-grabbing algorithm is like this video. Not sure if I recommend watching.
The automated #attention merchants will reward #content like this with more and more popularity, and since growing up as a human is all about popularity, the business models of the attention #economy will become intertwined in next-generation culture.
Don’t blame the kids. The business model is the message.
Jack Dorsey enthusiastically co-signed the deal that betrayed 200 million Twitter users and handed their accounts over to a fucking right wing egomaniacal billionaire. You’ll have to excuse me if I’m not eager to sign up for another one of this dude’s schemes.
