Great Lakes cities have been making tangible progress in implementing faster, more equitable lead service line replacement programs. This is going to make a major difference.
The Westminster Brexit maladministration have given up on their lies about it freeing the U.K. to pursue higher environmental standards and now just let the shit wash over them and us.

The Biden Administration is proposing requiring #water systems replace lead drinking water service lines within 10 years — the strictest limits since federal standards were set 30 years ago. There are still about 9 million lead water pipes in the U.S.
Okay this is weird. Are there any #waterQuality#infrastructure or #catsofmastodon nerds on here who have ever seen crystals like this form on a charcoal filter for a cat water fountain? It's been about three weeks since the last time I washed out the fountain and changed the filter. There were about a dozen crystals formed on the outside of the filter. They're hard but I can break them with my thumb nail and they crumble.
Data published in 2020 shamed the #UK government by showing no English river was in good chemical condition. The last full water assessments were in 2019, when just 14% of rivers were in good ecological health and none met standards for good chemical health.
So what do the Tories do in this type of situation?
Yes, you've got it.
Remove the requirement for annual reporting and change the standards against which water quality is assessed. #WaterQuality#Environment
New rules to improve water quality across Europe have been passed by the European Parliament.
The Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive will mandate countries to step-up efforts in removing harmful micro-pollutants.
The new law has been described as one of the most significant overhauls of European Union water policy in over 30 years. If enacted, it would improve urban waste water treatment standards across Europe.
#Deoxygenation is commonly observed in #oceans and #lakes but less expected in #rivers. Assessments of almost 800 rivers revealed persistent warming in 87% and deoxygenation in 70% of the rivers. Mean deoxygenation rates per decade were higher than those in oceans. Projected future rates are between 1.6 and 2.5 times higher than historical rates, indicating significant ramifications for #waterquality and #aquatic#ecosystems.

Looking out from Pike Place Market over the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement and seeing this cruise ship docked at Pier 66 made me stop to reread this excellent Hakai magazine article from March by @andyengelson about the environmental costs of the cruise ship industry. "[T]he majority of ships idle their diesel engines for nine to 11 hours while passengers snap photos at Pike Place Market and the Space Needle."
Attending my first Edinburgh City Council meeting this morning.
As a resident of The Shore, with a keen interest in the environment around us, going in support of & interested in hearing the debate on motion 8.4 by Councillor Caldwell - Sewage in Edinburgh's Waterways.
Really happy with the unanimous passing of the motion today by the councillors.
Thanks to @JackRMCaldwell (If he is still using Mastodon!) for bringing this motion forward today, and the other councillors who weighed in with their thoughts and amendments.
The fight continues though! Watch this space!
Extra motivated to get out for some litter picking soon. 😉
