When Bing, Microsoft’s search engine platform, went down early yesterday, it took down a number of services with it, including ChatGPT search, Yahoo, and DuckDuckGo — all of which rely on the Bing API to operate.

With the majority of Google search alternatives taken out in one fell swoop, it highlighted the lack of competition that Google search truly has, and the implications that has on our online experience. Is there another way? @arstechnica has more.

DuckDuckGo, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT's web search, Ecosia, and Qwant all stopped working this morning because of Bing API. 😂 And they want Microsoft Copilot deeply integrated with Windows OS. Imagine someone is unable to book emergency medical appointments because Microsoft Copilot is down or you can't withdraw money or transfer funds through netbanking because AI and screenshot services are down. This is a good example of why we must not trust someone like Microsoft for anything serious.

The opt out process is deliberately convoluted and you have to fill out a form to object. This is what I wrote in mine, and the objection was immediately registered as successful, so feel free to copy.

Sometimes the way people phrase things is so telling. For instance, telling women they should be "taking care of" their husband and children. Another adult doesn't need taken care of like a child, what you want is for women to be a Sex Mom.

Of course, young Republican men don't get that the combo of their party's social and economic policies mean most of them are never going to be able to have sex, either regularly or at all. Contraception is illegal and you don't make enough money to afford kids? No sex for you, bub!

Don't come for me Catholics; I was raised Catholic and I full well know where the bodies are buried. You know full damn well that it's not an accident that folks from our religious culture have been among the most prominent supporters for historical fascism - see Mussolini, and Franco for just two examples. Whoever is doing the optics for Sunak is fucking dreadful at their job. Sure.... go out there in the pissing rain - announce excitedly you're calling an election when you're 20 points behind and literally everyone hates you. Don't worry about anyone playing Things Can Only Get Better incredibly loudly, totally drowning you out, undermining your credibility and making you look foolish. Mention the Covid schemes again so they can remember the parties and how 'Eat Out To Help Out' contributed to all those deaths, also reminding all the people who didn't receive any help whatsoever whilst your net worth has increased by around two hundred million pounds. That'll be a comfort to the three hundred thousand people homeless in England - a mere 30% increase in the last two years alone. Then they can get a nice photo after of the back of you, absolutely drenched after being horribly embarrassed. I'm sure those images won't come back to haunt you for the rest of your life.

On the one hand I'm delighted that we'll soon be free of this god-awful government, and have a probably-still-crap-but-way-less-bad Labour government instead.

On the other hand the Tories are only dipping further in the polls, and more time might clarify tactical voting options for seats with no clear challengers - so the later the election the worse their likely result. And they deserve oblivion.
