Delightful 💕 to see that #EuropeanCommission now has an official #Mastodon instance. #EC loves Mastodon, as the image clearly shows.

I hope this love will expand further to not just extend to one #FreeSoftware microblogging application, but to become a full embrace of the #OpenStandards based decentralized #SocialNetworking environment and #SocialWeb technology ecosystems that have formed around its open protocols, such as #ActivityPub.

This is nice to see..

A student can't afford to pay the $8 per month for sync, so builds a alternative. Then posts to HN and says "I probably violate ToS, so will take down the repo if asked".

Then the Obsidian CEO replies. Explains they aren't VC-funded and the $8 bucks subscription keeps the light on. Applauds the work of the student, points to other open ways that content sync can be handled and gives advice "if you rename, there's no ToS problem". 👍

2024.. The year that no longer messes with the caps of my hashtags? 🙏

Don't auto-change them to lower-case, as for many hashtags that worsens how they are read in screenreaders.

😮 Don't be. Each time you choose proprietary you help turn the fedi slowly in the direction of the usual corporate hellscape that the rest of the Web already is.

😨 And then we end up in an online space where for years we can complain to each other how we squandered an opportunity and how won once more.

🎯 Use apps instead, created by the public for the public.

Sustainable FOSS. What is that?

Not long ago I found an article by Gabriel Mays titled "Business questions worth asking". It listed about 55 questions that went a bit more light-hearted about considering various biz-related aspects than BizCrap usually found when searching for and similar buzzwords.

Yet it wasn't really applicable to projects. So I gave all questions a pass and reformulated to be more appropriate. From here it can be further improved.

I filed a named "Community has no Boundary".

The idea is to define a standardized vocabulary extension for "Community", based on as:Group where the members (as:Actor) have a collection of as:Relationship to other actors.
