Those of you using cutesy font/display settings in your usernames — cursive, flipped, reversed order, or rotated/upside-down letters — please understand that this is aggressively hostile to users of screen reader software, which will announce each character in exhaustive, technical detail. Please don’t do this. It becomes a massive speed-bump in their timelines. If failing to use alt tags on images is passively bad, this is actively bad.

When the pandemic hit, Zoom became ubiquitous overnight. I urged caution to the economic development board I was on who wanted to join the bandwagon. I cited its history, silently installing server software on Macs — which Apple (unprecedentedly) had to remove from everyone’s computers.

Yes, Zoom smartened up after that, but the thought that festers is “how did you ever think that was ok?”

People forget too quickly and forgive companies too easily — especially when it’s convenient to do so.

Sometimes I think about how stressful it was, years ago, having a server co-located in a facility a 2.5-hour drive away — and what a hassle visiting it in person would be if, say, a software update went sideways — and then NASA/JPL comes along with Voyager and shows how the grown-ups do it.

I’m unfollowing accounts posting AI-generated “art”.

No, I don’t think your prompt is clever, creative, or makes you an artist. No, I don’t care how close this is to conceptual art (which is no more interesting) or some long-dead studio model with masters & apprentices.

What posting this stuff says — even if only intended as entertainment — is that you see no value in artists or their work.
