You lovely Mastodon people have NO IDEA how grateful I am for your posts here.
One of my joys in early-to-mid-era Twitter was the way it gave me antennae on the world - stuff I normally wouldn’t see, I saw. It made me so much more aware of others’ inner lives, perspectives. Waking up to see successive waves of timezones posting was amazing - like a timelapse of Earth’s minds sparking.
Mastodon is all of that, without the interference. And it’s beautiful. ❤️
Ricki keeps the conversation moving, and does so in such a way that she’ll have you confessing to some stuff that you would never say out loud, but you’ll say it to Ricki (even though you know she’s going to tell everyone!)
In my mind, Ricki is one of the main social pillars of the Fediverse. Like @lisamelton, this place might be able to exist without her but it would be a shell of what it could be.
It’s my FediVersary! My MastoBirthday! My Birthtodon! I joined a year ago.
So glad to have a non-profit social media platform. And I really enjoy the community, and all the new folks I’ve connected with here, some even IRL!
In addition to all the diverse voices and perspectives that help me stay informed and empathetic, I get to hear really cool stories from people who were / are active in the music scenes and bands I post about.
Fisherman at dawn on the coast of Florida. Warm salt air, towering thunder clouds flashing on the horizon. It was so beautiful, it felt so good to be alive.
Hello #fediverse, here’s my #introduction. I’m Jennifer, a Gen Xer who loves to meditate. Mainly the type of #meditation where you focus your attention on your inhalation + exhalation. I’m also enthusiastic about body scans, visualizations, #zen & contemplative #mindfulness to support my #mentalhealth. These practices (sometimes) guide me to a sanctuary within, where I find insight & #gratitude about the present moment, #healing of the past, and clarity about the future.
Of all the beings that I'm afraid will eat me, LRRR is the funniest. I'm sure he misses his home on Omicron Persei 8, but while he is here he is bringing delight to the Fediverse. His human ghost writer is great, too, and has spoken to me with compassion when he has been permitted to act on his own.
Whether giving or receiving care, showing your appreciation for the other person’s efforts (no matter how great or small and no matter the results) will help both of you.
Shoutout to Fina Wilke's Warp! Such a nice, self-contained way to just send stuff between devices. Works like a charm for both my 5GB music folder and that Markdown document I wanted to bring with me on my laptop to do some editing while away from my room. Take it for a spin and experience the magic for yourself!
“Your life, right now, today, is exploding with energy and power and detail and dimension, better than the best movie you have ever seen. This is it. This is life in all its glory, swirling and unfolding around us, disguised as pedantic, pedestrian non-events.” — Shauna Niequist
We received the following letter from Dennis, a grateful reader who is incarcerated in Texas:
"In this crappy world, sometimes the best thing to do is read a book! I want to thank y'all for sending books to those of us who can't afford to get any."
#ClimateDiary It’s spring and it’s wonderful. So much joy, beauty, abundance, grandeur from nature, just there, in my otherwise mundane neighbourhood. Bluebells feel very early, along with everything else, but i also want to relish and be grateful for all whilst we still have it. #FrugalAbundance#Gratitude
This place isn't perfect. It has its problems, flaws, and limitations. It's not immune to hatred or those who spread negativity.
Yet, here I've encountered incredible people, a marvelous community committed to bringing constructive engagement, dialogue, and social interaction back to the network.
Thank you, Fediverse.
Thank you, friends of the Fediverse.
