Earlier today the UK Government’s Secretary of State for Scotland, Alister Jack MP, announced that he will order ministers to plan for a nuclear reactor to be built in Scotland!

Scotland only has one operational nuclear site left, Torness, which will be decommissioned in 2028.

Will you help us tell Alistair Jack and the UK Government to keep nuclear out of Scotland?

After a long time without posting, I thought it was about time to get back to sharing some work. I know, insects do not really need solar power and wifi, but as a good landlord to them, I thought it was a good idea. Jokes aside, there is a BME280 and an 18650 battery wired to an ESP32 inside to help me get better weather data. and made it a real breeze after all the soldering. In the end, I am really happy with the result. Is this ?

The largest development in Washington was approved last week by state officials. It overlaps Yakama Nation ceremonial sites, the county's last habitat connectivity corridor, and the county's last intact sagebrush steppe.

The state has required project modifications to protect a threatened species of hawk, but has required no modifications to protect other tribal cultural resources.

EPA sets stricter limits on emissions from coal-fired power plants

The rules are a key part of Biden’s pledge to eliminate carbon pollution from the electricity sector by 2035 and economy-wide by 2050.

Not going to lie, I'm skeptical. Very skeptical. But there is a chance CO2 emissions will have peaked in 2023.

"We find there is a 70% chance that emissions start falling in 2024 if current clean technology growth trends continue and some progress is made to cut non-CO2 emissions."

Regardless of if it actually happens, it is important to recognize the progress we are making, which are more rapid than most realize and many predicted. There is hope.

Unfortunately "green" energy isn't that green as we hope it would be.

Have a look at this for example:

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/335083312_Why_do_we_burn_coal_and_trees_to_make_solar_panels

An inherent part of the production of is the use of (and other sources of Carbon, like woodchips) to reduce the source material (Silicon Oxide) into pure Silicon, thereby emitting, you guessed it right, huge amounts of !

According to this chemical formula:

Si02 + 2C => Si + 2CO

More from the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues:

leaders have called for a moratorium on carbon markets and other "false climate solutions."

“The transition towards a green economy [keeps] starting from the same extractivist-based logic that prioritizes the private sector," said Darío José Mejía Montalvo, of the Zenú tribe in Colombia.

I have to do a bunch of number crunching to confirm this*, but it appears our house is generating as much electricity as we use—if not more—thanks to our solar panels!

This fact brought to you by digging into our energy billing after seeing a huge spike in bills for the TWO MONTHS it took the solar company to come back out and reinstall our panels after getting our roof replaced due to hail damage. 😬

*Xcel could make this 1000× easier to understand…

Solar panels have become so cheap that they are being used to build garden fences in the Netherlands and Germany, as a boom in Chinese production saturates the global market.

From Atmos magazine: "Without expanding the definition to include the care sector, the creation of 'green' jobs in male-dominated industries like energy and construction risks perpetuating gender inequality in the labor market."
