As Russian missiles rain down on Ukraine, some of its beauty salons remain open — testament to the bravery, resourcefulness and adaptability of their owners. Allure magazine's Sophia Panych, an American beauty editor of Ukrainian heritage, spoke to salon founders about their experiences of cutting hair in bunkers and giving manicures by lamplight. Vogue Ukraine's Alyona Ponomarenko told her why beauty remains important: “It reminds us that life, whatever it may be, goes on."
