We don’t get old in gaming. Just that our tastes in gaming change 🤓 don’t know if I will go any further then the first two games but gonna try them out and say that I had a chance to play them
I’m honestly shocked that it’s not more popular, it stands alongside the greatest indie games of all time in my opinion.
Gameplay is a perfect blend of fast paced, tough as nails combat, lengthy and challenging puzzle dungeons, and rich, emotional storytelling. The music and visuals are dialed in perfectly as well.
To be clear the game is hard hard, but, it does have assist and accessibility features built in, including stuff like slowing down some of the time sensitive puzzles.
The game is currently 70% off on steam (only $6!), so at that price I encourage everyone to play it. Runtime is probably like 40 hours for the base story. My 100% run is over 100 hours including the dlc
I’m hooked on #TheLastOfUsPart1 and I’m pretty sure I’m getting real close to the end.
The sad thing is I now have to go to bed to make sure I have at least some sleep before getting up to take my son to nursery and be somewhat cognitive for work.
Hey, can anyone tell me some games where you start off in a trashed base, or even just ruins, and you've gotta fix it up?
Bonus points for sci-fi, NPCs who'll move in, and town management.
Prefer not first person perspective, but will still look at #gaming#recommendation#openToAll
@falcennial@MachineLordZero heh, dungeon keeper is a great game but the one I was actually thinking of was graveyard keeper! Sorry for confusing everyone.
Almost half of the #Friday has gone by, so I believe this is the right time to start thinking about the #weekend, and what better way of doing so than talking about the videogames you'll play during the next days?
@LoadingReadyRun Thank you @Graham_LRR and @beej for your commentary on Mastodon. I've had this app installed on my phone for over a year with no idea whomst to follow.
@antoniav House of the Dead is an old arcade shooter - those games where zombies jump right at you and you just jump in with a gun-- I tried to get more into Resident Evil games but they're so weird, so much hunting around for stuff, basically like point and click or adventure stuff- but I just wanna jump in and shoot! Hahaha. I've heard good things about Ratchet & Clank, had a friend who was really into those. Yeah, I was playing a little Diablo IV recently too. But that's just normal, some kind of Diablo haha
And lets not forget costs for #licensing stuff and/or tools needed and the hardware required.
Just a mid-range Workstation can easily cost €5k, add to that another €5k just in Software to be licensed (whether perpetual or per annum is not relevant at setup) and also the fact that people still need to make rent and afford food in the meantime...
The (tragically under-watched) show "Halt and Catch Fire" did a terrific job of conveying that sense of wonder people felt about video games from the mid-80s to the mid-90s.
From text adventures to the single-dev games at Atari, from Mario Bros to DOOM.
Why don't I feel that anymore?
Last night, as I was playing the newest Ratchet & Clank, seeing the world's rich detail and astounding graphics, I wondered: Is it because our imaginations did most of the work back then?
@ward True story: I just binged the entire series in the last 2 weeks (for the first time), and after the series finale's credits rolled, I just started over at Season 1.
If I have, this is an updated version for 2023. Here's mine, in no particular order.
Centipede (my favorite game ever. Arcade version! Lemme shoot those bugs!)
Black Widow (also the arcade version - I'm totally hooked on this one too, and it was a more recent discovery. When I go to an arcade with retro machines, I basically just want to play this and Centipede the whole time.)
Wolfenstein 3D (a classic, still playable. Who doesn't love killing digital Nazis?)
Diablo (1, 2, 3, 4, Immortal, any. Just choose one and I love it. What a series. Hooked.)
Gun Nac (my favorite technical [ship based] shootemup-- if you don't count Centipede as a shootemup. A rare one for the NES. If you like shooters and get the chance to play this, even emulated, don't miss it.)
Wizodd (I love roguelikes and indie games, and this one is both. Just a cool, simple game that's definitely beatable and replayable. But you won't beat it every time!)
Mario Kart (another that it doesn't really matter the series, although the Wii one might be my favorite, closely followed by the SNES one. I definitely play the Wii one the most.)
Doom (1 or 2, preferably. I feel like those are most classic, and those are the ones that got me hooked. More recent ones I'm not as much about, but those first two.. wow.)
Beam Rider (I'm throwing this in because it's an amazing game for the Atari 2600. Maybe one of the best ones. I feel like it gets overlooked with all the other great ones on the system, River Raid, etc.)
Beekyr Reloaded (okay, this is a weird one. I was tempted to put Neko Navy or Q-Yo Blaster or another modern indie shootemup that I love in here somewhere instead, but Beekyr is too rad. I love bees and I love shooters, so this one was definitely for me, despite its creator not really being happy with its port.)
Those are my ten, and I'm sticking with them. (At least for today 😂). There are SO MANY other games I love, but these ten are huge.
@jake4480 Haven't played it (yet)! But I'm a massive fan of Adam's original games – especially Diamo XL!
I checked his steam page a few days ago and saw that I'd entirely missed that he made all those recharged versions with Atari! 🤯 Certainly piqued my interest!
@njamster oh nice- it is GOOD. I played a LOT of it, and maybe even more Black Widow Recharged, which is ALSO awesome! They both get pretty tough too haha
