Has anyone damaged western, English-speaking democracies over the last 20-odd years worse than Rupert Murdoch?

“the media mogul had created an “anger-tainment ecosystem” that had left the US “angrier and more divided than it’s been at any time since the civil war”.

[…] without Fox and News Corp, Britain probably would not have exited the European Union and Donald Trump would not have been president.”

A story out of Gainesville, FL describes a man approaching a woman, then pulling out a gun and shooting her when he realized she was transgender.

Thankfully, the bullet only grazed her so she doesn't seem to have been badly hurt.

However, I found this really fucked up: A local news report described this potential hate crime as "mistaken identity."

Every once in awhile you read an article that is like "Wow, that is a kick in the head," and for me today it was this one in the Washington Post on organized groups of people in my home city, the U. S. capital, who take their dogs out rat hunting at night. I was not aware this was a thing.

Monday night I was on The Rachel Maddow Show to explain how ‘verification in reverse’ (that's my term for it) powers the conservative media and right wing politics.

Here's the clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUTTBI0I67U

My goal was to introduce on television an idea you have not heard before on television: "verification in reverse."

In the last 6 days the NY Times has run 4 articles about e-bikes -- all of them negative.

A few other stories the paper might consider:
🔹 E-bikes pollute far less than even electric cars
🔹 Compared to autos, e-bikes pose minimal risk to other people
🔹 Unlike cars, e-bikes provide exercise

Sometimes people take politics too personally, eventually resorting to violence but the question is whether violence is justified during the time of elections?

Nearly half of voters across a group of swing-states said they expect violence around the upcoming presidential election, according to a new poll.
