It just clicked in my brain. What I haven't been able to articulate about why I'm so anxious about #Windows Recall. I'm sure others have already gotten to where I am.

It's worse than "a system that tracks everything you do" and stores that info in a basic database that could be easily compromised.
It's worse than a nanny surveillance tool for companies to spy on their employees.

It's inescapable.

It doesn't matter if I make a dozen "how to disable recall" tutorials. The second YOUR data shows up on someone ELSE'S screen, it's in THEIR recall database.

It won't matter if you're a master #security expert specialist. You can't account for EVERY other computer you've ever interacted with. If a family member looks up an old email with your personal data in it, your data is now at risk.

If THEIR system is compromised YOUR data is at risk.

I just went from "vague feeling of unease" to "actively writing templates to canvas elected officials, regulators, and attorneys general."

I think I have a good feeling on what the response might be here on Mastodon, but with Microsoft pledging to improve security, and making Recall opt-in, will this change your perception of Windows 11?

An artificial intelligence engineer at Microsoft has warned the company of the dangers of its image-generating system Copilot, referencing the ease in which the technology produces disturbing images that anyone could stumble upon. According to the engineer, Microsoft has failed to address his concerns, leading him to write public letters and flag the issue with U.S. senators.

Wysłałem propozycję, by zakazać użycia "" w , do "tworzenia ebuildów, kodu, dokumentacji, wiadomości, zgłoszeń błędów, i tak dalej".

Noticed that developing with access to my personal data is dangerous, given random dependencies and auto-updating Code extensions…
Set up a nice local container for dev stuff…
Hoped to keep all tokens and keys out of it (would run git push outside that container)…
Only to notice that only works with a full-access github token… sigh.

Anyways, still an improvement. Blog post to follow.

What if I spend 90% of my time refactoring? A LLM is not a refactoring tool! That's the topic of my latest youtube video: https://youtu.be/iXGBIX8gudE

In a new podcast, Linus(Tech) said that with the upcoming bruhaha, a lot of users are going to move to . But just today announced that AI is coming on their line too. Maybe just a chatbot for now, but eventually, it'll be more integrated. The only option (for those who can't stand ), is , on their existing, older PC. That's why distros running in low RAM are important.

Blah blah Copilot.

AI is not a passing fad, just like cloud computing wasn't. Yet they seem to be going through pretty similar hype cycles, a decade+ apart.

When Satya Nadella mentions 3 times in his first 7 words of a social post about announcements, I can't help but be reminded about the classic cartoon.

If you hire a consultant to help evolve your products to age of AI, surprise them by saying "Copilot, Copilot, Copilot" at the start of your workshop.

I am so exasperated with Microsoft.

I've used their operating systems for more than 30 years. And I've used their development tools and databases for more than 25 years.

I haven't been enamored with them since they went all out with Azure. I've found no value in any of the Azure offerings. In fact, they've made my professional life much more difficult. Now they're cramming AI and CoPilot in, up, and down every one of our orifices. I don't want any of it.

#Azure

#CoPilot

DaveMasonDotMe,

It's become difficult to think of them as a technology leader. There's very little coming from MS that feels innovative or that makes life better for me or my customers. The persistent feeling I get is that they're looking for every angle they can find to monetize their relationship with me and other customers and end users.

It took me several years to fully divorce myself from Google.

It's looking more and more like a divorce from Microsoft is imminent.

@ai6yr I have a Win 10 Pro machine. When clicking search I kept seeing an offer to try CoPilot, I OFC ignored. Then I found that I could use group policies to disable Copilot. User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Copilot > Turn off Windows Copilot. Machine keeps naggin me to update for free to Win 11 but so far I have resisted. Need to figure out if I do that if I can still disable and IF they are going to give me Win 11 Pro not home...
