I, a straight person, have a question. I'm talking about homophobia in a draft blog piece, and what’s a good choice of word for the people that homophobes dislike and abuse? Has it got to the point where “queer” is respectful and appropriate? Is “LGBTQ” better? “Gender-diverse”? (I think I’m correct to think that “homophobe” has grown to include anti-trans and gender-related bigotries generally?) Who has written a really good essay on the subject? Thanks in advance.

Feels like a good week to tell every non-binary person in the how amazing you are, and remind everyone here that non-binary identities are stunning, beautiful, individual, deep and go so far beyond the 'enby' or 'NB' stereotypes you may not believe unless you're talking with them to understand ... :heart_nb:

Well you're adored, amazing, you've taught me over the years and are still teaching me new things about gender ... including off-grid outside the binary. Plus you take personal authenticity to the very very max. Do I sound a fan? Well yes, cannot deny how much I think you all rock ... :flag_nonbinary: :butterfly_nonbinary:

First, some reference context: Italian is a gender-based language which linguistically contains only two genders, male and female, and every word, whether referred to a person, an animal, or an object, is classified in this binary system male/female noun.
As a linguistical practice, when you a have a mix of male and female elements like 'ragazzi' (boys) and 'ragazze' (girls), you refer to the group by using the masculine plural 'ragazzi'.

Kid had a red (unicorn) t-shirt on today, and was wearing Spiderman sneakers. She has long hair, and yet all the moms at the playground immediately defaulted to calling her a little boy.

The whole thing fascinates me. My mom tells me you can only find red and blue at rhe boys' section at the store. I am amazed at how gender coded kids' clothing is... 😆

Latest comic: Electric vehicles gone wrong

I'm fine with the soft, whirring spaceship sounds that some EVs emit as a safety feature to alert people that they're moving. The new Dodge Charger EV comes with a deafening 126 dB roar, which is just plain obnoxious.

The first series on my Substack, Opening the Black Box, is a detailed dive into what it was like to live through the questioning process. We have a lot of accounts of what it's like to and to grow up but it seems like almost all of our accounts of people like me, people who hatched but had no idea before they did, are (ironically) comics.

This is an attempt to change that with my .

More men need to take active measures to not follow women tbh.

Like, my partner will cross the street and go out of his way if he's walking behind a woman, so that she doesn't feel threatened or bothered by his presence.

Today I was "followed" by a man in a parking lot. I know he wasn't following me, I knew it at the time as well, that he was just walking to his car the same as I was.. but it scared me. A lot.

I would have appreciated it if he crossed away from me. It would have been a great kindness.

🆕 blog! “Why I'm using "Mx" as a title”

I am not non-binary. I am cis-gendered - and pretty much the definition of "default male". And yet, whenever I encounter a form which has it as an option, I select my title to be "Mx". I've even stopped my usual practice of choose His Excellency - much to the dismay of my postie, I'm […]

Stanley cups fulfill a basic task of holding and keeping water, something similar tumblers had been doing for decades without the social media hype.

So why are women standing in line for hours to buy them? And what does it mean when something made in the name of sustainability is sucked into a consumption frenzy?

Everyone interviewed for this story agreed that while is a component in the marketing and buying of products like these, it’s still not an excuse.

I used to have a lot of gender anxiety (I had to wear dresses and stuff, which I abhor, and I also went to a snooty rich girls’ school which gave me years of gender trauma). Yesterday I read someone say that women’s beauty pageants, are actually a type of drag for cis high femme women, and now I have a little less gender anxiety

A reporter asks Pope Francis how he can say that "all" are welcome in the Catholic church when LGBTQ people and women are, as anyone with eyes to see can see, treated as second-class citizens.

Francis's reply: well, all are welcome, but certain rules apply to LGBTQ people and women within the church that don't apply to others.

Notably to men. Especially to straight men, who have extraordinary privilege in the church.
