If anyone is interested, I'm giving this old #GPS receiver away for shipping costs from Germany.
It's a Garmin eTrex (the first one from 1999-2002). It has an IPX7 case, a 64 x 128 4 level grayscale LCD display with a backlight. GPS doesn't work anymore due to the GPS week rollover, other components work great.
It's a bit sad that a really well designed handheld device became useless due to outdated software.
It was also a prop "scanner" in #Stargate SG-1 if someone does cosplay.

A couple of weeks ago I finished a beast of a project.
The interactive installation (titled InStability) is an artistic endeavor to demonstrate how seismic stations in Iceland detect earthquakes.
Visitors are invited to touch the map, triggering "earthquakes", and observe how LEDs, representing seismic and GPS stations, light up as the seismic waves propagate across Reykjanes peninsula.

A plane flying from #Helsinki#Finland to #Tartu#Estonia, couldn't land at the Tartu airport on the night of Friday due to #GPS interference from #Russia and returned to Helsinki.

I'm used to picking up Chinese, Russian, and EU GPS - but I think this is the first time I've seen an Indian one.
C-V2X communication requires very precise timing so that transmitting devices can find and use their transmission time slot. We rely on GPS time for this.
I decided to treat myself by buying a new satnav for the car. My car doesn't have a satnav built-in, which with hindsight is a good thing.
The new model is a Garmin DriveSmart 76. My main reason for upgrading was to get lifetime map updates, which are installed via WiFi, directly onto the satnav (no PC needed). For me this is a major benefit, as otherwise map updates require a Garmin app running on Mac or Windows. The new unit will replace a Garmin Nuvi 65 LM.
