DO NOT BUY HP PRINTERS!

I don't believe I've ever seen a more from a .

If you buy an and sign up for the optional HP Plus , you'll get a that will FORCE you to only new HP cartridges — for the life of your printer. And once that firmware update happens, there is no way to undo it.

DO NOT BUY HP PRINTERS!

https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/25/23736811/hp-plus-printer-ink-drm-firmware-update-cant-cancel
HP has found an exciting new way to your printer

screenshot from the article "Here are a few choice quotes from the terms and conditions for HP’s ink service that I think you’ll appreciate (bolding mine): "You expressly allow HP to remotely change, patch, update or otherwise modify Your printer’s software, firmware or programming remotely, without notice to You, in order to provide the Service to You or to comply with applicable laws "Remote monitoring may include provision to HP of one or more of: page counts, types of documents printed (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, pdf, jpeg, etc.), types of devices that initiated print jobs, printer serial number, cartridge information (e.g. HP original cartridge status, and whether the cartridge was new or used at the time of its last insertion into the printer), and other similar types of metrics related to your Service as may be added by HP from time to time "You agree to maintain connectivity of Your Printer to the Internet and to not remove or disable any remote monitoring software or functionality on Your Printer."
screenshot from the article "If Your printer is not connected to the Internet, then the Subscription Cartridges (as defined in section d. below) will be disabled, and You will not be able to use them to print; however, You will continue to be charged for the Service as described in Section 7 (“Paying for Your Service”). In order to reactivate disabled cartridges, You will need to reconnect Your printer to the Internet and keep it connected "When Your Service is cancelled for any reason, HP will remotely disable the Subscription Cartridges and You will no longer be able to print with the Subscription Cartridges. In such a case, you will need to purchase a regular HP cartridge compatible with your printer, in order to continue printing "HP may increase or otherwise change the Service Plan Fee and Overage Fee, and add additional fees, for any Service Plan, or otherwise change or add Service Plans at any time in HP’s sole discretion with prior notice to You."

Still looking for my "forever Linux laptop." The one I'll put ALL my stickers on.

At one point I thought it would be the @system76 Oryx Pro but 17-inchers are big and & power hungry.

Then I wanted it to be my Apple M1, but app compatibility (ARM) has me a little concerned.

I need all day battery life, great display, MODEST dedicated GPU or strong integrated GPU.

Should I just do what everyone else has been doing and buy a ? The T-14 looks pretty sweet.

what pleases your aesthetic senses? what feels poetic? what fills you with awe, wonder, or excitement?

Any electronics hackers?

I got this cheap portable video light, and it comes with some preset light animations.

This has a USB-C port, maybe it exposes something more than power?

Maybe it'd be possible to get access to this thing's underlying software and reprogram it? ;)

Looking at again, keychron seems like the top option for customizable tenkeyless, any other suggestions?

I'd like something a bit more colorful than black, maybe pink. Thinking tenkeyless, not sure about the even smaller ones. I do use the arrow keys sometimes

Merci d'avance ! 🙏 🥰

Hmm, it appears impossible to buy just a handful of T-Nuts online. I suspect a handful at the local hardware store costs more than the giant 100 and 120 packs... but, really. I only need 4.

so if i have a june 2017 i7 iMac 27" that i have now fixed

and if i put it back together (except for the screen tape) but forgot to replace the CR2032 battery on the motherboard

how long is that factory-supplied CR2032 gonna last?

is it worth taking apart completely again (because yes it would be COMPLETELY apart again) before sealing it up to replace that stupid battery?

i've never seen an NVRAM battery go back on a mac desktop and the oldest one i've got is 2006 (our media server Mac Mini) and I just wanna know

is this a "nah, they never go bad, seal it up" situation or a "yeah you really should" situation?

because it's bugging me

If you have any skills or talents that you can use to try to avert the coming then get off your arse and do something.

Thats not saying "I will fly less and recycle more". Its coming freely together with other people to come up with new ideas and inventions to sort things out. If we can come up with software like then we can come up with open source solutions to and problems to help everyone

Its not just , and the like. If you are good at say editing or you can help make content promoting the other people creating new technology. , and more can come up with and fair means of generating money with the new . They can also tax the rich motherfuckers until the pips squeak to pay for them too.

Anything else is fiddling while Rome burns.
