Here's a #worldbuilding thing I have been thinking about for my #ttrpg#osr campaign: there is a single church that trains clerics. They are a polytheist church though, and their priests are trained to deal with all kinds of different cult roles a community might need. Which is why all clerics have the same spells.
They accept the existence of all kinds of gods, even though some are banned from worship (e.g. Orcus).
Now what would be a good name for such an... let's say "all-embracing" church?
I have an idea for a get-rich-quick scheme: using the Bessemer process to create massive amounts of high-quality steel. However, I'm sure my #DM has not given a single thought to this (because I know her) so I'm worried that this might give God fun #worldbuilding ideas to fuck with our party. How do I tell my group my plan, without having the industrialized slave company I know is on the other side of the map spontaneously develop a similar process?
Sinon, je suis actuellement en train de refaire la carte physique d'Eldoran, monde imaginaire abritant la cité volante d'Argona.
Sur l'image, je débute les reliefs du continent de Norumbega.
And I'm currently working on a new version of a map of Eldoran, fantasy world hosting the flying city of Argona.
I'm starting the shaded reliefs of the continent of Norumbega.
I'm Rachel (she/her), a 28-year-old from the UK. I'm a software developer, but you won't really catch me posting anything programming related. I do plenty of #gaming in #ffxiv#gw2#GenshinImpact and #HonkaiStarRail. If I'm not doing that I'm playing or running #pathfinder and #dnd and doing my best to throw together some #worldbuilding ^^
Although I've been slacking a bit recently, I enjoy reading mostly #fantasy and #scifi#books.
It’s surprisingly hard to find any solid sources on how many stars might exist within the Local Bubble (a 1,000 light year-wide region that our solar system sits near the center of). I can find sources on how many stars exist within around 50ly, and estimates of the entire Galaxy, but anything in between that seems impossible to find scientific sources on. Would love if someone can point me towards any resources on this!
As a kid, what inspired you to play? If YOU designed a media, toy, and game property for kids and the young at heart to play with, what would it look like?
AstroGrav for Windows and Mac is a full-featured, high precision solar system simulator that calculates the gravitational interactions between all astronomical bodies, so that the motions of asteroids and comets are simulated much more accurately than with planetarium applications.
Do you think hundreds/thousands years into the future the ubiquitous diamond plate family of designs will still be standard, or we'll invent something different to replace it? 🤔
Do you have some #books you recommend that really inspire your #worldbuilding ? I always say when writing fantasy pulling inspiration from occult sources can go a long way to helping you achieve that esoteric nature of the arcane.
In the 50 years since the Empire had moved the seat of power to Alflynd, there had been a huge increase in the standard of living and use of technology. Not only was their far more wealth on the planet, but the "Humans Only" laws had been relaxed, and in some cases repealed entirely. Only the very poor still lived in "medieval" villages without power or running water.
I am thinking about running an exploration game in FATE, where we explore not just geography, but also cultures. I want to draw on my players' ideas, the Hainish stories by Ursula Le Guin, some of Ian Banks' Culture novels – or on the game side, @JoshuaACNewman 's Shock: Human Contact. Most other games I know focus on one culture or on the inside perspective. Can anyone recommend #worldbuilding strategies for cultures compatible with the Brainstorm mechanics from Atomic Robo?
In worldbuilding and RPGs, settings tend to get associated with a genre to go with. But a persistent game world has the advantage that it can be visited through the lens of different genre types. Set a rom com in your dark fantasy world, or a courtroom in your sci-fi, or a game of Fiasco in your post-apoc. Hell, set your smut and erotica in your world!
Divinity as a direct product of faith; suggestions and pitfalls
In my homebrew setting, anyone (or anything) that is worshipped by sentient beings receives divine power....
