Here's a thing I have been thinking about for my campaign: there is a single church that trains clerics. They are a polytheist church though, and their priests are trained to deal with all kinds of different cult roles a community might need. Which is why all clerics have the same spells.
They accept the existence of all kinds of gods, even though some are banned from worship (e.g. Orcus).

Now what would be a good name for such an... let's say "all-embracing" church?

Remember to include little human touches in your work so that it breathes. Random bits of humour. Rude or angry graffiti. Kids playing with a rock.

The Riddle of Steel

@dnd

I have an idea for a get-rich-quick scheme: using the Bessemer process to create massive amounts of high-quality steel. However, I'm sure my has not given a single thought to this (because I know her) so I'm worried that this might give God fun ideas to fuck with our party. How do I tell my group my plan, without having the industrialized slave company I know is on the other side of the map spontaneously develop a similar process?

It’s surprisingly hard to find any solid sources on how many stars might exist within the Local Bubble (a 1,000 light year-wide region that our solar system sits near the center of). I can find sources on how many stars exist within around 50ly, and estimates of the entire Galaxy, but anything in between that seems impossible to find scientific sources on. Would love if someone can point me towards any resources on this!

AstroGrav Astronomy Software

AstroGrav for Windows and Mac is a full-featured, high precision solar system simulator that calculates the gravitational interactions between all astronomical bodies, so that the motions of asteroids and comets are simulated much more accurately than with planetarium applications.

Return to Alflynd: Alflynd Homestead

In the 50 years since the Empire had moved the seat of power to Alflynd, there had been a huge increase in the standard of living and use of technology. Not only was their far more wealth on the planet, but the "Humans Only" laws had been relaxed, and in some cases repealed entirely. Only the very poor still lived in "medieval" villages without power or running water.

I am thinking about running an exploration game in FATE, where we explore not just geography, but also cultures. I want to draw on my players' ideas, the Hainish stories by Ursula Le Guin, some of Ian Banks' Culture novels – or on the game side, @JoshuaACNewman 's Shock: Human Contact. Most other games I know focus on one culture or on the inside perspective. Can anyone recommend strategies for cultures compatible with the Brainstorm mechanics from Atomic Robo?

What is considered a delicacy in your world? How far will people go to obtain this?

auguryignored, to RPG
@auguryignored@dice.camp avatar

In worldbuilding and RPGs, settings tend to get associated with a genre to go with. But a persistent game world has the advantage that it can be visited through the lens of different genre types. Set a rom com in your dark fantasy world, or a courtroom in your sci-fi, or a game of Fiasco in your post-apoc. Hell, set your smut and erotica in your world!

If reality can encompass a kaleidoscope of human experience and moods, so can our fictional worlds.

A bit of an odd request, but I am looking for good books or other sources which describe pre-20th century settlements and societies which are both

(a) located in desert climates, and
(b) exist within fairly high mountain ranges.

I am less interested in the history but more how they worked as a society - including their technology, their lifestyles, and so forth.
