I am cree, and belong to a long line of chiefs and medicine men

These are passed down to the oldest son of the oldest son

I'm the oldest son. My dad was the oldest, his dad was the oldest. Since I was a kid, I've been prep'd for this

Generations of traditions have been passed down

I struggle with this in many ways, being a gay man most especially. I feel a duty to pass this on to my own son, and to help heal people in need as I was taught

I need to embrace this, and this is my first step!

    I live in a country 🇨🇦 that puts me on lists because I oppose genocide.

    I live in a country that opposition to genocide is a fireable 🇨🇦 offence

    I live in a country where a leading Toronto employment lawyer put 700 names on a never-hire list like Maccarthy. Then wrote an op ed about it in the Financial Post 🇨🇦

    ’s fine.

    miki_lou,
    @miki_lou@mastodon.social avatar

    @LALegault Yep, we live in a country that pioneered starvation, open-air (reservation) prisons, the pass system, theft of children, etc. as tactics for stealing land and natural resources while denying genocide and colonial violence by govts, churches and white settlers. I say, pioneered because South Africa replicated Canada's residential schools and clearly Israel is mirroring 160 years of Canada's colonial tactics.,

    miki_lou,
    @miki_lou@mastodon.social avatar

    @Alon @LALegault Point taken. There certainly are differences in the lists of crimes but the stench of religion-fueled white nationalism is common to both colonial, land grabbing, ethnic cleansing projects IMHO.

    Happy Solstice! At my latitude, it's exactly 8 hours between sunrise and sunset today. Because solstice (the position of the Sun at lowest declination) happens late tonight, so tomorrow's only a tiny bit longer. But the next day is 7 seconds longer!

    Interestingly, because we're close to perihelion, solar noon keeps shifting later for a few more weeks - this is because Earth is moving slightly faster around the Sun (Kepler's 2nd law), but the rotation stays the same.
