It reads quite legit to me, and in their recommendations they offer both proprietary and Foss alternatives, and they even recommend some of their largest competitors. I'd say that feels pretty legitimately helpful to me.

The main and probably easiest to transition to would be . You can move to ghost.org, or another 3rd-party host, or host it yourself!

Migration guide: https://ghost.org/docs/migration/substack/

Official site: https://ghost.org/

There is also which I haven't checked out myself yet, but it's the next most popular alternative.

Migration guide: https://www.wired.com/story/how-to-migrate-newsletter-substack-to-buttondown/

Official site: https://buttondown.email/

If you're not too concerned with the monetization aspects and into something clean & barebones, you could also consider (I use this myself).

https://writefreely.org/

is also an option, but I'm hesitant to recommend it, as is a whole thing in it's own.

I hope that helps!

After 5, I decided to make a quick tool to rapidly spin up bots based on a template and create a systemd service/timer to run it.

I wrote a little tutorial to go along with the code, in case anyone else is looking for a speedy way to generate basic bots quickly w/ PHP.

My last day at work has been scheduled. In just 3 shifts, my 25 year career in comes to a screeching halt while I enter the terrifying world of .

All this because I caught , once, at work, in June 2022, despite having 4 vaccines.

The first 12 weeks were bad. Then I got a little worse each week. My weight tanked. I am 6' 3 and was a little over 200lbs (my normal weight). A year and a half later, I presently weigh 145 and dropping.

I was diagnosed with , , , and am still having tests (CT, gastroscopy, biopsy) done on my GI.

Many of the shows you go to (likely unmasked) are run by #techs who are struggling with #LongCovid. Trust me. I'm one of them. And I'm not the only one of them in this room.

Please, if you go into crowded public spaces like #concerts and #films, #WearAMask.

It's a nightly devastation to be one of only a handful of masked people at a sold-out show.

The artists you love and your fellow fans deserve better. YOU deserve better.

Last night I saw staring Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner.

At first, life seems pretty swell for the hip-set military crowd at the onset of the middle sixties, but an ominous undertone begins to surface, revealing the hideous reality that life on earth was about to become extinct - in waves, no one entirely sure when - but certain of it's arrival.

Through the course of the film we follow several different relationships, and a plethora of reactions to the impending cull - all meant to hold a mirror to some facet of ourselves, desperate to remind us all: "there's still time, but it's running out".

Just as applicable, only a little more real, and a lot more urgent, this 65 years later.

You can watch it for free, legally, below, thanks to !

Any experts on the #canadian #disability system?
It looks likely that I will be looking at #LTD and the death of my audio career. I need some advice and a rundown of what it's actually like to go through.

Bonus if you have navigated the system with #cfs or #longcovid, as that's what's got me.

I LOVE that phrase: "preponderant influence". Well said.

Behind search for masto is a resource-hungry application called . Sure you might be able to get Masto to run on a , but you won't be running elastic search with it.

Having recently moved my instance to a much more powerful system, I now run ES, and WOW what a difference being able to search post makes! Soooo many times I wanted to reference a toot that had scrolled by but had no way of finding it. Now I do!

Even though I've put some serious resource limits on ES, it's bar none the most resource intensive service running (out of around 25).

I hooked my GNU/Linux-loving son up with an old mini-PC that I picked up at a used AV store for about $50. For another $20, I upgraded the ram to 12GB.

He's got it setup it up with as his first home server, with which he's now hosting a few static websites and an internet radio station for his friends and family. He's got loads of resources to spare for when he gets into running larger services.

You don't need to spend $30+ a month on cloud services when an old recycled office PC will more than suffice.

The best part? Helping him troubleshoot his problems with and and all that fun stuff. I've already made every mistake possible over the decades, and he gets to benefit from that. That how it should work!

I understand their point to a point, however, the solution to windows spying is, ultimately, to not use windows.

If you would like to not use windows but don't know where to start, I'd be more than happy to have a chat with you to help get you started on your journey.

How about just this once, we all allow ourselves a pass and just vote for the one that is the least the worst, to make sure we AT LEAST keep our democracies.

It will be much easier to fix if our baseline is democratic rather than fascist. It's taken hundreds of years to get this far.
