The only feeling I have about starship is dread.

They want to use that to launch batches of HUNDREDS of Starlinks at once. And guess where all those Starlinks will end up? The pieces that don't make it to the ground will end up in our upper atmosphere, screwing up the stratosphere, the ozone layer, who knows what else because SpaceX isn't required to do any environmental assessments of this.

99.7% of Venture Capital money goes to people that are not Black women.

0.3% of Venture Capital goes to Black women.

The 11th circuit court cited civil rights law when it said that it is racist to stop anyone from having access to VC based on their race, and that setting aside VC for people of a given race is racist.

So they ruled against a group of Black women looking to give their own money to Black founders. For violating the civil rights. Of white men that want that 0.3% too.🙂🙃

Instead of focusing on , the manipulation of processes by domestic & foreign agents, & other genuine threats to , Mandate for Leadership’s authors would have these agencies do the bidding of & his movement. That’s a formula for giving Trump the he seeks—not through an explicit crushing of electoral democracy, but by “reforming” it in precisely the way that the nonpartisan group Protect Democracy warns is most dangerous.

Anti-camping ordinances and sweeps are pushing unhoused people into increasingly marginal spaces, exposed to extreme weather.

Officials in cities like Ontario, , can be hostile, by, for example, removing park gazebos.

But CA is prone to cycles of drought and heavy rainfall. And when the rain hits, like it did in Nov. 2022, it can be fatal to people living around culverts and drainage.

That November, the sudden rain washed away around 10 people, killing three:

Anthony “Poopsie” Ray Lopez, Madeline Velasquez and Josephine Guadalupe Dominguez.

“I miss them,” said Pandora Naranjo, a friend.

Matt Fowle, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania who tracks deaths among unhoused people in the U.S., found a 141% increase in mortality from environmental causes across 22 localities between 2011 and 2020.

He said those deaths are preventable with some planning.

Quentin Fears, a soft-spoken 51 year old, has lived in and around a flood-control channel that runs under Interstate 10 for around a decade. That day in November, he rescued a friend he saw floating away on a mattress.

“I’ve seen on TV where there’s a fire or storms or whatever and you see that they’re warning everybody, and they never warned us at all,” said Naranjo. “They should have gotten us out in time.”

Today, Fears still lives in the same spot. “There’s nowhere to go,” he said.

The library posted a video of them receiving a book that had been loaned out for 70 years. The person’s family returned it after they passed. Now when I procrastinate about returning a book, I think about that video.
